The U.S. cities hosting the 2026 World Cup are announced
Source: NPR
Four summers from now, 48 countries will vie for the 2026 World Cup as the tournament is staged in cities across the United States, Canada and Mexico.
FIFA, soccer's international governing body, announced these will be the host cities for 2026:
Vancouver Seattle San Francisco Los Angeles (SoFi Stadium) Guadalajara, Mexico Kansas City Dallas Atlanta Houston Monterrey, Mexico Mexico City Toronto Boston Philadelphia Miami New York/New Jersey
Eleven sites are in the U.S., three are in Mexico, and two in Canada. Locations for particular matches, including the sites of the opening matches and final, will be announced later.
This will be the first time that the tournament will include 48 teams, instead of the current 32-team format. It will also be the first time the tournament is staged across three host nations.

They will be celebrating here in Philly because those who worked on bringing a game here worked so hard.

(13,498 posts)see a smaller city like Kansas City was picked as host city. They have worked on this for many years. Its a great soccer town. KC is building a women's soccer stadium for KC Current and should be done in next couple years. Mens team, Sporting KC, is in KCK, but FIFA games will be played at Arrowhead Stadium. Clark Hunt (KC Chiefs) said his father who brought Chiefs to KC, wanted to bring soccer here 50 years ago. I am so happy for the city!

know Clark played soccer. Lamar wanted to bring soccer to KC too, but dont know if he was ever involved in bringing first team, the Wizards, to KC.

(6,474 posts)Hunt was accomplished soccer player in his early days. He attended Southern Methodist University where he was captain of a nationally ranked soccer team and a two-time Academic All-American. It only made sense that after college Clark began his career helping his dad run the Kansas City Wizards of the MLS. He was an influential figure in the emergence of Major League Soccer and was with the Wizards until they were sold in 2006. Today, he still sits on the board of FC Dallas, a family owned club.
Clark Hunt graduated No. 1 in his class-not just another rich kid. His Dad was a class act too.

(6,261 posts)Having learnt from not hosting it in 1994 when the UW refused to put in grass for it. Seattle has the perfect summer temperatures for this event, unlike Orlando who got it instead back then.
I assume it will be in the Seahawks/Sounders stadium this time.

When I was a kid (late '50s, early '60s, my dad used to take us to the big northern-most park in the city (The Bronx) Van Cortland Park.
Besides people flying model airplanes, the Irish, Italian, and Greek immigrants used to play soccer up there.
