SCOOP: Jan. 6 panel subpoenas unseen Trump tapes
Source: Politico
S COOP: The House select committee investigating Jan. 6 sent a subpoena last week to ALEX HOLDER, a documentary filmmaker who was granted extensive access to President DONALD TRUMP and his inner circle, and who shot interviews with the then-president both before and after Jan. 6. The existence of this footage is previously unreported.
A source familiar with the project told Playbook on Monday night that Holder began filming on the campaign trail in September 2020 for a project on Trumps reelection campaign. Over the course of several months, Holder had substantial access to Trump, Trumps adult children and VP MIKE PENCE, both in the White House and on the campaign trail.
According to the subpoena, which was obtained exclusively by Playbook, the committee wants three main things from Holder:
(1) Raw footage from Jan. 6.
(2) Raw footage of interviews from September 2020 to present with Trump, Pence, DONALD TRUMP JR., IVANKA TRUMP, ERIC TRUMP and JARED KUSHNER.
(3) Raw footage pertaining to discussions of election fraud or election integrity surrounding the November 2020 presidential election.

(38,694 posts)Since most of what Trump does it talk about himself incessantly, there may not be much actual content.
Alex Holder also sat on these tapes until now, which makes him, at best, a POS.

(706 posts)If Alex Holder was his own tipster?
That way, it seems more "discovered" and not simply turned over as "oh, yeah, here's some other stuff you didn't ask for" during his focused first interview subject. Somehow, maybe more neutral or legit?
Just spitballing.

(38,694 posts)He's got a surprisingly light resume. Profile of a British Rap Crew.
I'm genuinely curious if there's anything worth hearing on the tape, but Trump is so predictable and dumb that I don't have high expectations.

(110,257 posts)meeting that was mysteriously cancelled last week. This letter was written on the 15th, and asked for the documents the very next day - and for an interview to be scheduled.
My pure speculation is that somebody had already reached out to them, told them of the existence of the tapes, and agreed to supply them if subpoenaed -- hence, the quick turn around time, and the lack of resistance. Hence, the Committee canceling the June 16th public hearing.
This could be very interesting!

WASHINGTON The House committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol announced Tuesday it was postponing a public hearing scheduled for 10 a.m. ET Wednesday.
Rep. Zoe Lofgren, D-Calif., a member of the panel, told reporters that the postponement was due to "technical issues" stemming from "overwhelming" demand on staff to produce videos.
"We're trying to give them a little room," Lofgren said.
The next hearing is now scheduled to take place on Thursday at 1 p.m. ET. The committee also announced the dates and times for two more hearings: June 21 and June 23, both at 1 p.m.

(110,257 posts)I presume. The fact that the letter went out on the 15th, asking for a response by the next day, suggests they knew the filmmaker would cooperate -- and had requested to do it under subpoena.

(89,967 posts)Block all the exits and hidey-holes. Dont give em ANY way out. Cough it up, NOW. ALL of it.
They should rightfully be running out of patience.
After all, trumps cohorts have all learned from him, and you can bet theyll test-drive it for themselves. Hes the king of delay. Thats been his schtick for a long time (well, some of it anyway). Always ask the judge for a delay. For whatever lame-ass excuse your lawyers can come up with. And keep seeking more delays from there. Thats what trump has done over and over and over again, and how he wiggles his way out of tight legal predicaments over and over again, too.
Its really a rather shrewd strategy. You wear your opponent out that way. Because the meters always running on THEIR lawyers and theyll run out of money long before you do. And theyll be forced to drop it or settle on your terms to keep the damages to a minimum.
Rather devious, Id say.

(9,714 posts)What if these tapes contain enough incendiary material to bring down the entire Putin/Trump cabal, like pulling a weed out by its roots? Seems no one thusfar in Trumpworld considered the legal ramifications of granting interviews and video shoots like candy, but none of them seemed to have the common sense to keep their big mouths shut. They are all so full of themselves. Maybe that will end up being their kryptonite. Maybe the Committee could make all the assertions that they have thusfar based on witness testimony.
Then....roll tape. Corroboration with your own two eyes.
DOJ...be alert!
