Multiple House Republicans on defensive over Jan. 6 panel testimony
Source: Politico
Several top Trump aides during the post-Jan. 6 period, including special assistant Cassidy Hutchinson and aide Johnny McEntee, described outreach to White House officials from multiple members of Congress seeking clemency: Reps. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.), Louie Gohmert (R-Texas), Scott Perry (R-Pa.), Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) and Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.).
...snip...
At an earlier hearing, the Jan. 6 panel showed an email from attorney John Eastman, one of the key architects of Trumps bid to stay in power, asking to be placed on Trumps pardon list. He, too, never received a pardon.
Later Thursday, several of the House Republicans vigorously denied asking for pardons for themselves. Gohmert said in a statement he asked for pardons for other people unrelated to Jan. 6. Perry issued his own statement reiterating his denial that he asked for a pardon: I stand by my statement that I never sought a Presidential pardon for myself or other Members of Congress.

(128,963 posts)When they stop writing bullshit like this (published yesterday in the midst of hearings showcasing the depth and breadth of GOP criminality).
There is plenty of "Republicans in Disarray©" material out there that they manage to ignore or gloss over.
In fact, there is a "come to Jesus" quandary going on in swing state GOP "establishment" apparati like here in PA, with a significant criminal focus ratcheting up against both state and federal legislative officials with respect to the January 6 insurrection and attempted coup, particularly surrounding one who is a sitting Congressman and another who is running for Governor, yet *crickets* other than the latter being held up as one worthy of praise in this ridiculous piece - Comes Across as a Cult Guy: The Pennsylvania Candidate Freaking Out Both the Left and the Right
Why the fuck does anyone believe that Mastriano would "freak out the left"? Mastriano is a fucking criminal as is Scott Perry (PA-10).

.@January6thCmte findings are clear: Rep. Perry drove a brazen attempt to corrupt @TheJusticeDept.
He fueled election lies for months leading up to the insurrection.
That very night, he dismissed the will of PA voters.
I encourage Rep. Perry to do the right thing and resign.

(15,286 posts)asked an interesting question, why didn't these men get pardons? She asked Melber if it was possible that Trump realized granting them pardons would put himself in jeopardy as the pardonees would no longer be able to claim their 5th amendment right against self-incrimination and could be forced to testify against Trump.
