Source: NBC News

WASHINGTON — Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, and Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., criticized the Supreme Court's ruling Friday to eliminate the constitutional right to an abortion, after they voted to confirm Justices Brett Kavanaugh and Neil Gorsuch, two key votes in the decision to overturn a half-century-old precedent.

“This decision is inconsistent with what Justices Gorsuch and Kavanaugh said in their testimony and their meetings with me, where they both were insistent on the importance of supporting long-standing precedents that the country has relied upon," Collins said in a statement.

She blasted the ruling as "a sudden and radical jolt to the country that will lead to political chaos, anger, and a further loss of confidence in our government.

Manchin said he's "deeply disappointed" in the justices

This is not a rhetorical question. I haven't heard anybody explain how Congress can pass a constitutional law legalizing abortion.

There USED to be a constitutional basis for abortion rights. The Supreme Court just ended that.

What we have here-today- is an aberration, a perversion of freedom as implied in the Constitution. Religion has gotten its filthy nose under the flab of the tent and is inching its way into what should be a secular government.

70. Collins, Manchin suggest they were misled by Kavanaugh and Gorsuch on Roe v. Wade

OK, so they said they feel misled. I'm not a politician, but I can see that the Republican promoted justices lied like 40 going North.

So what can we do? If we are truly outraged by the Supreme Court's recent ruling, we need to get out and vote! Get the Democrats elected so that we have the majority in the House and the Senate. Then, once we gain control of Congress, buckle down and decide what we want to get done - and get it done. Democrats and Independents have tried to play fair - only to get blind sided and screwed by Republicans. Enough already! The Republican play book has not changed in decades. Democrats, let's please push forward, gain control of Congress, and get things done.

...the Dems will gain at least 3 seats in the Midterms (let me have my dreams), and Manchin can go roll in the money in his vault.

When has Collins not been misled by her "fellow" fascists?

Kill the filibuster, rightsize the court to 13 and wave through Biden's picks.

Collins, the GOPs most useful idiot, is sad again. Manchin is a nasty piece of work and always has been.

The most depressing and infuriating thing about Collins in the Senate is that, for all the times she has thrown her state and its citizens under the bus, they keep sending her back.

What you can do:

1. - eliminate the filibuster
2 - push through 4 more justices who are centrists if you'd like - but those who would go back and vote with the other three to reinstate abortion protections
3 - ignore the noise that will come from the crazy right

Wonder if either of the two will DO anything about it? That’s what I want to know.

They were lied to, and there should be consequences for that.

This is a childish response. They should have factored in that a republican pick for the supremely extreme court would prevaricate.

They have been senators for years. They are mature human beings who chose to ignore the reality. They should NOT have voted to confirm either one. These were partisan picks and the proof is in the pudding.

How come we knew and they didn't? SC Judges can be impeached & removed, but we all know that won't happen. I'm at a loss except for women & enlightened men to all vote in November to give the Dems more votes. All the complainers about the Dems not getting things done better wake up. We need more votes and that means winning more elections. That's what it has always been about.
