Juul can keep selling e-cigarettes as court blocks FDA ban

Juul can continue to sell its electronic cigarettes, at least for now, after a federal appeals court on Friday temporarily blocked a government ban.
Juul filed an emergency motion earlier Friday, seeking the temporary hold while it appeals the sales ban.
The e-cigarette maker had asked the court to pause what it called an extraordinary and unlawful action by the Food and Drug Administration that would have required it to immediately halt its business.
The FDA said Thursday that Juul must stop selling its vaping device and its tobacco and menthol flavored cartridges.

Federal health officials on Thursday, June 23, ordered Juul to pull its electronic cigarettes from the U.S. market, the latest blow to the embattled company widely blamed for sparking a national surge in teen vaping. (3,208 posts)I admit i am someone who uses vape products (although not this one). They helped me get off a 33 year smoking habit.
I thought this was good news? Isn't this about personal choice?
Alcohol kills and harms a lot of people and we regulate it.
Cars are killing the planet.
I would like to have the choice to use these products. I do not see how I am harming others by the use of them.
I would like to see them regulated like anything else: alcohol, cigarettes, pollution controls with cars.
And guns!
I thought the thing here was people had choices but should not be harming others? Kind of like how a person's same sex marriage or abortion does not harm others?
Is it just too early in the morning after a slam of a day yesterday?

(4,231 posts)only on this company and not on other vape companies. They had used deception in their marketing and had targeted children with their ad campaigns etc. They had been warned by FDA over and over and had refused to comply beyond making minor gestures.

(3,208 posts)I was not aware of these specifics. I know they recently restricted being able to get these products by mail (and it was so cheap, really impacted me and the company i was using).
I would hope that kids are not bombarded with advertising so much anymore!
