NYC mayor says Giuliani should be investigated: 'To falsely report a crime is a crime'

Source: The Hill

New York City Mayor Eric Adams said during an unrelated press conference Tuesday that former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani should be reminded “that falsely reporting a crime is a crime” after video was released that called into question Giuliani’s claim that he was “hit very, very hard” by an employee at a Staten Island, N.Y., supermarket.

“I think the district attorney, he has the wrong person that he’s investigating. To falsely report a crime is a crime. If that video wasn’t there, then this person would’ve been charged with punching the former mayor,” said Adams, referencing a surveillance video from the New York ShopRite where Giuliani had said he felt as though “a boulder hit” him.

“Well, when you look at the video, the guy basically walked by and patted him on the back,” Adams added.

“I don’t know if he said congratulations. I don’t know what he said to him, but it was clear that he was not punched in the head. It was clear that it didn’t feel like a bullet. It was clear that he wasn’t about to fall to the ground. So it was clear that he had a lot of creativity and sensationalism that caused this person to be arrested,” Adams stated during the press conference, while also calling Giuliani “irresponsible” for a former mayor. /SNIP

Smacked him much harder today. Guess he will file an assault complaint on her. Knocked him 3 steps backward. Felt like a gun shot. Could have killed him. Maybe killed his relevance or freedom outside a cell.

First, Giuliani is too stupid to realize that there would be a security video that would directly contradict his version of the event. Giuliani is too stupid to breathe, it seems.

But second, Mayor Adams should have gotten his facts straight before he attacked his predecessor. Giuliani apparently didn't file a police report of the incident; the police filed the report. (Giuliani acted as an idiot as usual and called Mayor Adams an "idiot.&quot If this is incorrect, it will blow up in Rudy's face.

Frankly, Mayor Adams shouldn't have stuck his nose into this story. He has much more important issues to address for New Yorkers.

Going up to a stranger and touching them without their consent - and especially with any force, like a substantial "slap" on the back - is assault. Some people have PTSD. Some have medical issues where that could cause them tremendous pain. And others just don't like being significantly touched by people they don't know.

Rudy is still an ass. But it was wrong of the store employee to touch him.

There is no world in which that was an assault.

Ethically and morally that should be up to the person who is being touched without their consent.

And as I mentioned, there are situations where something most people assume is harmless can be physically or emotionally painful - is it acceptable for a society to just ignore that?

Battery, no. Simple assault, sure. You don't just get to help yourself to someone else's body.

Either way, Giuliani's still a dirtbag. Hopefully his life's story is punctuated (and over-shadowed) by criminal charges, and perhaps a prison term, although not holding my breath on the latter.
