Younger men seek vasectomies due to Roe v. Wade being overturned
Source: Newschannel 5 Nashville
When Roe v. Wade was overturned, one sign at Nashville's protest said "Mandatory Vasectomies." Some women feel men should step up to the plate and get snipped to prevent pregnancy.
"This is a safe long-term way of avoiding an oops," said Dr. Joseph Pazona, a urologist in town.
Pazona said he's received an influx of calls from young men inquiring about vasectomies.
"I think its wonderful that men are starting to take more personal responsibility when it comes to family planning," Pazona said.

That goes for condoms for teens and adults to surgery for men to have a vasectomy, women to have their tubes tied and birth control implants.
In fact a federal law could be passed that requires such states to implement it or face a reduction in federal spending in their state including but not limited to the possible closing of military bases in their states.

Back in my childbearing years, I asked a doc for a tubal and he refused me. Said I might change my mind and want kids someday.
At 68, I have not had kids. Did not have any, did not wish to have any. Ive spent lots of money and subjected myself to lots of birth control.

After all the Federal government is not stopping them from implementing their laws regarding abortion rather its controlling the Federal monies which no state is entitled to them under the Constitution.

(34,135 posts)I was 25 and never wanted children, but three male doctors were like, "Oh, you'll change your mind and love having kids." Nope, never did.
In fact in 2002 when the news came out that sometimes tubals can "reverse" themselves and women in their 40s and 50s who thought they were safe were finding themselves pregnant, I finally did something about the major health problems I was having with my monthly cycles - I had a complete hysterectomy. I wish I had done that originally and saved myself years of pain, bleeding, and migraines. THAT was a life changer!
I didt want kids, but the docs said nope, no to tubal, no to hysterectomy. Told me I would change my mind. Nope.
And I had years of heavy menses, tons of pain, and discomfort. But, apparently men know best. But we carry the burden. And the expense of monthly period supplies and birth control paraphernalia.
My oven is closed for good, but all the parts are still there. Bet I had borderline endometriosis based on later research on what is normal. Makes me so mad.

(34,135 posts)She was the most dismissive of my symptoms. Essentially she told me "Women must suffer." This, after having several cancelled appointments and spending hours in her waiting room that was filled with pregnant women. Because, of course, babies.

(4,549 posts)I remember when I was between GYNs. I was trying to find one that was near me, and took my insurance, and had a decent reputation. I was turned down by many practices because the GYN part of the OB-GYN practice was basically closed. Essentially, they only wanted patients who were looking to get pregnant, etc. They did not want to waste their time on patients who just needed year paps and manual exams to make sure everything was still OK.
Disgusting.

(34,135 posts)Fortunately my Family Practice doctor was willing to do the yearly stuff - or have his PA do it. His wife had also had problems and he sent me to her wonderful GYN who really listened. Without that doctor I would have suffered for ten or more years - my mother's menopause lasted fifteen years.
There are a few good OB_GYNs out there, but only a few, apparently.

(3,166 posts)The same people who are comfortable telling women what to do with their bodies would probably get all up in arms over vasectomy clinics.
That in itself is reason enough to have those clinics!

(2,786 posts)It was a difficult, dangerous pregnancy, to both me and her. I was advised not to get pregnant again. After my divorce 5 years later, I went to the Free Clinic to get a tubal ligation and they refused because of my age. I had to get my ob-gyn to copy my records to them and also to write them the recommendation I not have any more pregnancies before they relented and did the tubal.
Just as an aside... I came out of the "stoned sleep" before they were done and felt them cauterizing the tube before they finished. And they didn't do anything about it! That was the last time I went to that Free Clinic for anything. I think they were just mad their opinion was overruled by common sense.

(36,747 posts)Got it done in my 40s. Girlfriend and I each had previous kids. About 12 to 15 guys in the waiting room, each with a driver. I was third. Came out and told my girlfriend ' ok, no more puppies'. Not one smirk, not one chuckle from that crowd. That was one serious bunch of people.
