Half of G.O.P. Voters Ready to Leave Trump Behind, Poll Finds
Source: NY Times
By Michael C. Bender
As Donald J. Trump weighs whether to open an unusually early White House campaign, a New York Times/Siena College poll shows that his post-presidential quest to consolidate his support within the Republican Party has instead left him weakened, with nearly half the partys primary voters seeking someone different for president in 2024 and a significant number vowing to abandon him if he wins the nomination.
By focusing on political payback inside his party instead of tending to wounds opened by his alarming attempts to cling to power after his 2020 defeat, Mr. Trump appears to have only deepened fault lines among Republicans during his yearlong revenge tour. A clear majority of primary voters under 35 years old, 64 percent, as well as 65 percent of those with at least a college degree a leading indicator of political preferences inside the donor class told pollsters they would vote against Mr. Trump in a presidential primary.
Mr. Trumps conduct on Jan. 6, 2021, appears to have contributed to the decline in his standing, including among a small but important segment of Republicans who could form the base of his opposition in a potential primary contest. While 75 percent of primary voters said Mr. Trump was just exercising his right to contest the election, nearly one in five said he went so far that he threatened American democracy.
Overall, Mr. Trump maintains his primacy in the party: In a hypothetical matchup against five other potential Republican presidential rivals, 49 percent of primary voters said they would support him for a third nomination.

I have no more fucks to give. People with no character nor principles are dangerous with any amount of power. Catering to their whims is not politics its hero worship.

He's the GQP's new fair-haired fascist, and he'll be their nominee. Count on it.

Same with major news papers.
Will corporate media finally announce that the GQP are in disarray.

If this poll is true, they'll be getting groomed for a smarter version of Trump, which is such a low bar that Biden can eat their breakfast, lunch and dinner.

(18,579 posts)The media spends most of its time on Trump, the rest trying to convince us how low Bidens polls are. Yet Biden still wins, especially women and jhe young.
I wish someone, anyone would explain why These over 65 love Trump. He is against every program they depend on!

(6,619 posts)the right wing indoctrination process began 35 years ago which is how it became so ingrained as to allow totally worthless crazy idiots to win elections and take over state politics. It explains some of the difficulty trying to bring them back to reality.

(13,105 posts)Unless he only has one serious rival, no other single candidate has a chance of beating 49% support in the primaries. Though the primaries are by state, so it's possible that he could win big in states that have fewer delegates, and lose big in states that have more.

(172,223 posts)to shit all over Biden and saved their GOP look for today.
Yet they left out a handy dandy graph of GOP respondents about their reasons for not supporting 45 and instead focused on "other candidates" that they might prefer.
Here is a no paywall link.

Pick the one you like and swear by it.

(9,148 posts)Donald Trump's numbers have never been higher. He has the most support ever recorded for a president and for an individual lifeform in the 14+-billion-year history of the universe. People come up to him with tears in their eyes and say, "Sir, thank you for being so incredibly popular. Your support is just tremendous. It's as wide and high as the impenetrable wall you built across the entire Mexican border. We've never seen anything like it." And then they keel over just from being in the presence of such greatness.
