GREENWOOD, Ind. (Gray News) - Two people are dead and two are wounded after a shooting at an Indiana mall, reports say.

The shooting reportedly happened around 6 p.m. on Sunday.

Police responded to the scene and have said there is “no known ongoing threat.”

Authorities are asking people to avoid the area.

There will be no official update until about 9 EDT. The mall is just over the county line from Indianapolis, so the Greenwood police are the responsible authority for updates. Local news feed shows two buses at the mall, I guess to transport those who were sheltering in place. Nothing much more to report as of now.

14. There are several malls in Greenwood.

It is pretty much a suburb of Indianapolis. When I’m visiting my daughter a couple of times a year we go there a lot, mostly for the shopping and the restaurants.
My grown grandchildren live very close and shop there all the time. It seems like a friendly part of town. But then again, Indiana is the only place I’ve seen someone walking around in a department store with an open gun at his hip.

Only thing you can do, is maybe pass a law to stop new sales. You cannot confiscate them.

After reading the article, I’m wondering how he was carrying, as most malls are gun free zones. Same with movie theaters. That’s why they are often targets of mass shooters

And if I remember correctly, Indiana is similar to Michigan and the signs don't have any legal weight. Property owners can post them, but getting caught with gun would only result in a trespass charge and only after the person is asked to leave and refuses to do so.

It’s constitutional carry. The state cannot infringe on the 2nd Amendment. Part of the licensing process was to see if there were any restrictions on an applicant having a weapon. Now, thanks to the folks who back the blue at any cost, cops have no way of knowing who should or should not be allowed to carry.

The ISP commissioner straight-up told the committee hearing this bill that this could get cops killed. But GUNZ….

post 17 comment saying that you couldn’t confiscate assault rifles. I agree with that and don’t believe we would be able to do that even with a liberal court majority.

Really just offering up a thought about how to get a lot of AR15s off the streets, given a less partisan political ennvironment than the one we are in now. One in which there is possibility of legislative compromise. I know that’s hard to envision.

Another thing. The mall was a no gun zone. So now I’m fully expecting the general assembly to take away the right of property owners to restrict firearms on their premises.

The suspected gunman in the Indiana mall mass shooting carried two rifles, a pistol and more than 100 rounds of ammo, authorities said Monday, and the good Samaritan who fatally shot him is credited with saving “countless lives.”

Three people were killed at the Greenwood Park Mall outside of Indianapolis on Sunday. Two others were injured and the gunman is also dead.

The suspected shooter was identified by officials as Jonathan Douglas Sapirman, 20, of Greenwood. Sapirman entered the Greenwood Park Mall and went into a restroom near the food court about 4:54 p.m. on Sunday, Greenwood Police Chief Jim Ison said Monday.

Sapirman stayed in the bathroom for 62 minutes, then exited and began firing near and into the mall's food court with a SIG Sauer rifle, killing three people.

By 9:40 p.m., he wrote, police had confirmed that four people had died and two were injured, including a 12-year-old girl who suffered minor injuries. The shooter is among the four dead. The victims who died were named by the coroner as Pedro Pineda, 56, of Indianapolis; Rosa Mirian Rivera de Pineda, 37, from Indianapolis; and Victor Gomez, 30, of Indianapolis. The Pinedas were husband and wife.

Greenwood Police Chief Jim Ison said in another news conference that the shooter was a man. There was one male victim and four female victims. The victims were between their early 20s and 30s. Two people were in stable condition. One of the victims was 12 years old but has only a small wound, a scratch on his back. When asked if anything happened before the shooting or if it was pure coincidence, Ison declined to comment. He said authorities are reviewing surveillance video.
