The city of Uvaldes acting police chief was placed on administrative leave just hours after the release of a damning state congressional report on, among other things, the overall lackadaisical police response to the Robb Elementary School shooting. Lt. Mariano Pargas suspension was announced by Uvalde Mayor Don McLaughlin, who added the city would be conducting its own internal investigation into the incident. We agree with the Committees review of the incident, there was failure of command, McLaughlin said. However, we have further questions as to who was responsible for taking command as each agency there had senior level commanders on site. The mayors statement hinted at further repercussions to come, adding that it was imperative that each law enforcement agency involved [investigate] their highest ranking, onsite officers actions. Pargas is the second officer to be placed on leave in the fallout of the shooting, joining Pete Arredondo, the embattled police chief of Uvaldes school district, who was suspended earlier this month.

(14,176 posts)He's the one who called Beto a "sick son of a bitch" after all when Abbott was disseminating lies about the Uvalde police's heroism. He needs to come up with a story that doesn't reflect badly on him and his decision-making.

(4,007 posts)Seems like the city, major, council, etc. are bent on spreading the blame around so thinly that none of the LE superiors each take much blame. Lots of finger pointing to avoid taking said responsibility let alone working very hard to evade any criminal and legal ramifications.
We'll see in coming weeks if sadly I'm right.

(4,007 posts)....all up and evade any responsibility of LEO's since it's bad business for those two miscreants. Especially after that fool Abbott jumped way too soon on false fact fed to him, no doubt, by the same suspended officer or his boss or the mayor. Since it is Texas, expect no one goes to jail let lone be indicted. Heck, Paxton has evaded justice now for YEARS on multiple and serious charges. Why expect white men who allowed Latino kids to be killed to ever be charged?
Coverup underway for weeks now to shield Abbott from the expected onslaught of Beto!
Texas voters, wake up to these criminals!
