Former Trump strategist Steve Bannon felt "above the law" by defying a legal summons to testify about last year's riot at the US Capitol, prosecutors said at the start of his trial. Mr Bannon, a key player in Donald Trump's 2016 election win, faces two counts of contempt of Congress.

He is accused of ignoring the "mandatory" summons to testify to a congressional panel investigating the riot.

Mr Bannon, 68, says he is innocent.

If convicted, he could face up to two years in prison.

Mr Bannon served as campaign chief to Mr Trump in 2016 and became the Trump White House's chief strategist until he was ousted seven months later in the aftermath of a violent far-right 2017 rally in Charlottesville, Virginia. But he has remained in touch with Mr Trump and his top allies.

Three Percenterism is not a group, but a sub-ideology or common belief that falls within the larger antigovernment militia movement. Three Percenters (also known as III%ers or Threepers) claim that only 3% of American colonists fought against the British during the American Revolution, a claim that has never been proven.

Many 3% believers resemble ISIS-like extremists in terms of their zeal and their willingness to operate without leadership or traditional hierarchy. They are among the most dangerous of the white terror groups in that they are far more likely to decide to act on the basis of perceived code or instruction and are prepared to be quite violent when they act out. In some ways they are the definition of armed and dangerous. Confronting one of them is inviting violence in their view, and in reality. They have no rational boundaries and no functional process for taking in information which conflicts in any way with their beliefs.

This is why Bannon acts so extreme. Like Roger Stone and Mike Flynn he is way beyond the bend. Any time the Press talks about any one of these guys it should be required to run the banner underneath that says regardless of who these guys claim to be, they should be arrested on sight to protect common citizens from their threats.
