Tulsi Gabbard, Rand Paul Placed on List of Russian Propagandists by Ukraine
Source: Newsweek
Kentucky Senator Rand Paul and former Hawaii Representative Tulsi Gabbard have been listed by Ukraine among a number of American politicians, academics and activists Kyiv claims have promoted "Russian propaganda.
The list was compiled by the Ukrainian Center for Countering Disinformation, founded in 2021 by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to study the impact of Russian disinformation. The center is part of Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council.
The listwhich also includes retired U.S. Army Colonel Douglas Macgregor, military strategist Edward Luttwak, political scientist John Mearsheimer and journalist Glenn Greenwalddoes not explain what the consequences are for those who Ukraine clearly considers responsible for promoting the Kremlin's line. But it offers explanations for inclusion on the list.
In April, Paul said President Joe Biden provoked Russia to invade its neighbor by advocating Ukraine's entrance into NATO.

in 2008 he would not support mccain until minutes after he picked palin. it was announced shortly before the show started the fri before the GOP convention, and limbaugh then said he could finally support mccain. the convention would have been a disaster without Limbaugh's endorsement of mccain. mccain campaign manager davis/manafort pushed palin on him over 'normal' republicans and they were working for russians. palin was also being wooed by russians then re alaska and oil and gas.
then in 2009 a russian hack with wikileaks was coordinated with a week of limbaugh creating "climategate" to sabotage obama at the copenhagen climate conference - guaranteeing putin and co hundreds of billions in fossil revenue
and then 2011 he spent weeks telling his teabag dittohead trumpers that it would be good to default on the debt - something no republican billionaire would want
and so on

(17,555 posts)Those 2 idiots were on my "Seriously, WTF!?!" list long before Ukraine listed them.......
(And just so you know, they're in the running for "July's Jerk-of-the-Month" competing against Gaetz, Cruz, Gohmert, Boebert, Empty Greene, and, the reigning champion, tRump.)

(1,189 posts)Looks like a list of the handful of people with that view. I don't think there's evidence they are all tied to Russia or doing it for nefarious reasons.

(13,247 posts)How many Americans have been blind to Russian interference in the 2016 election and beyond?
They're well aware of how Russia's propaganda network compromises people in government.
Zelenskky is still weeding them out of Ukraine's government. They dig in like a tick on a hound dog's butt.
Paul and Gabbard's ties to Russia are well known. They certainly like Russia's money, and you know there's a quid pro quo happening somewhere.

(13,247 posts)Its becoming more and more clear, the Russians have been infiltrating the Republican Party for some time.

(96,043 posts)Someone who does what you want done, but whom you do not actually control, is an asset to your efforts, and often a factor counted on in planning.
People who peddle the same nonesense as the Kremlin itself are, as a matter of objective fact, circulating and endorsing the Kremlin line. Their motives are immaterial, whether foolishness or vainglory, reflexive contrarianism or cold cash and hot sexual partners, it makes no difference.
This really isn't difficult, it takes effort not to see it....

quite livid, actually. Theres video of it thats been linked here on DU, and is available on YouTube. Hillary Clinton said much the same of Tulsi Gabbard.
Both Paul and Gabbard have been spouting Kremlin talking points on the war in Ukraine. Im not accusing either one of being paid assets, but if they arent, theyre certainly both useful idiots.

At least so far, it appears to be advisory, not i contemplation of prosecution or other adverse action.
And if someone spouted a Russian talking point, then they did. Facts are facts.

Russian-American national Elena Branson a/k/a Elena Chernykh, was indicted 08 March 2022 for lobbying for pro-Kremlin policies while not registered as a foreign agent. She gave to one U.S. politician - whopping $59.95. Branson made two donations in 2019 to Gabbards presidential campaign.

(9,354 posts)And she does belong on the list. But I know zilch about her motives and would never suggest that I did know (unless I picked u some evidence somewhere that I do not now have.)

(4,168 posts)pattern, both with Tulsi and Rand.
They could well fall in the "useful idiots" category: able to be flattered, enjoy being contrarian and doing the "shocking" thing.
But there's a long pattern of these sorts of behaviors. Plus each has visited Russia. Those with access to intelligence reports have made allegations they are Russian assets.
Wittingly or otherwise.

(3,193 posts)since Russias invasion of Ukraine, maverick journalist Glenn Greenwald has emerged as one of the loudest anti-Ukraine voices in the American media, with all the usual themes: transparent gloating over Russias apparent war gains in Eastern Ukraine; alarmism over United States support for Ukraine leading to World War III; even the flogging of American biolabs in Ukraine conspiracies in his Substack newsletter and in videos. While Greenwald has made overwrought claims about the neo-Nazi menace of the Azov Regiment, his only response to reports of Russian atrocities in Bucha has been to warn about the dangers of falling for war propaganda and social medias manipulations.
This stance from Greenwald, a former lawyer who has been widely lauded for his investigative journalism and civil liberties advocacy, in particular, for his role in helping former National Security Agency subcontractor Edward Snowden expose illicit NSA surveillance and his Pulitzer Prize-winning coverage of that storyhas been met with bafflement and disappointment from many of his erstwhile admirers, who lament that Glenn lost his way.
But Greenwald has been baffling and disappointing legions of his progressive admirers for years with his cozy relationship with the MAGA right. And a look at his career shows that his pro-Kremlin affinity goes way backas part of a more general tendency to sympathize with foes of the U.S.-led neoliberal (or neoconservative) international order.
