Actor Tony Dow, best known as older brother Wally Cleaver on the 1950s sitcom Leave it to Beaver, died Tuesday at age 77.
A statement shared to Facebook on his official site read: Tony was a beautiful soul kind, compassionate, funny and humble. It was truly a joy to just be around him. His gentle voice and unpretentious manner was immediately comforting and you could not help but love him. The world has lost an amazing human being, but we are all richer for the memories that he has left us.
No cause of death was announced, but Dow revealed his cancer diagnosis in May. A joint statement from Dow and his wife Lauren Shulkind read, Dear Friends & Fans of Tony Dow, I have some very sad news to share with you. Unfortunately, Tony has once again been diagnosed with cancer. He is approaching this reality so bravely, but it is truly heartbreaking.

(12,662 posts)And when it arrived I squeeled in glee. I think I was 13.
It was signed in Aqua blue ink, same color as his eyes (I surmised). I still have it.

"Gee Wally, no one is going to be happy to hear this news."
"Well Beav, sometimes you have to eat your peas so you be strong and go on."
My condolences.

(17,909 posts)I just heard on CBS radio news but I don't see a link. The news person said they had been in touch with his family and he has gone into hospice care.
I can't find a verification.

(336 posts)Going to miss not just the wisdom that Wally would pass along to the Beav, but the way he'd pass it along too. Could only be done through the magic of television.
UPDATE: Just heard that Tony Dow (WALLY CLEAVER) did not kick-off, so that is great news. HEY WAIT A SECOND, IS EDDY HASKEL BEHIND THIS?
