Samuel Alito mocks foreign critics of repealing Roe v. Wade in Rome speech on religious liberty
Source: CNN
Justice Samuel Alito, appearing for the first time in public since penning the opinion that reversed Roe v. Wade, mocked foreign criticism of the decision during a speech he delivered in Rome.
Alito -- sporting a new beard -- gave the talk that was largely dedicated to protecting religious liberty last week, but it was only publicized on Thursday by Notre Dame Law School.
"Religious liberty is under attack in many places because it is dangerous to those who want to hold complete power," Alito said. "It also probably grows out of something dark and deep in the human DNA -- a tendency to distrust and dislike people who are not like ourselves," he added.
His speech comes a month after the end of a blockbuster term where the court's majority not only ended a federal right to abortion, but also ruled in favor of religious conservatives in two cases.

There's a lot more in the linked article that unfortunately won't fit into four paragraphs.

(16,799 posts)It was his church that keeps trying to grab complete power...it's also his church that has become dark and tends to dislike those who refuse to bow to them!
He was speaking to a friendly audience of pedophile protectors...

(13,593 posts)This decision will eventually backfire as more and more stories of women dying or suffering delayed medical care from miscarriages or other abnormalities of pregnancy. The religious right like to pretend that pregnancy is so normal a part of human life that nothing ever goes wrong so there is never a need for any medical intervention. The fact that 20-25% of all pregnancies end in miscarriage negates that belief, but these people have never let a few facts get in the way of their warped beliefs.

In the name of religious liberty, he supports complete power over others, differently embodied.

(8,103 posts)His job isn't to decide on the morals of the country. His job was supposed to be deciding law issues. Kudos to all the heads of state who voiced their dissent against that awful decision he and his buddies made. Look what they did to our country.
Expand the Court. Term limits for the Justices. And, 18 years is too long.
