Barnes will face Republican U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson in November. If elected, Barnes would be the state's first Black senator.
Godlewski was the third top-tier candidate to withdraw in the last five days, following the exits of Milwaukee Bucks executive Alex Lasry and Outagamie County Executive Tom Nelson. The primary is Aug .9.
State Treasurer Sarah Godlewski enters the stage during the Democratic U.S. Senate debate at Marquette University's Varsity Theatre in Milwaukee on Sunday, July 17, 2022. It was the first televised debate of Wisconsin's campaign season before the Aug. 9 primary.
In a news conference at a child care center, Godlewski announced she had suspended her campaign and endorsed Barnes, who stood by her side.

(128,844 posts)but apparently 538 has them far apart (although Ryan is easing up and Vance easing down). But come on OH!
There is so much fuss about Fetterman on DU and very little about the others running in other states (I did realize that some like WI hadn't had their primary yet and Ron Johnson is #1 target to go - but I'd hate to see a Vance in the Senate too).

(3,148 posts)when you can.
If our candidate doesn't have to fight a brutal primary, they have more resources to go after the Rethuglican. That's not to say that sometimes we don't have to fight for the soul of our party in the primaries, but when we don't, we can hit the general in better shape.

(16,177 posts)I like Godlewski. I really do. But I feel Barnes has the absolute best shot at winning against the horrible, Russia-backed RoJo.
OnEdit: I just donated to his campaign. Yay!

and these developments make this all the more possible.
