FBI executes search warrant at Trump's Mar-a-Lago in document investigation

(CNN)The FBI executed a search warrant on Monday at Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida, as part of an investigation into the handling of presidential documents, including classified documents, that may have been brought to Florida, three people familiar with the situation say.
Trump confirmed that FBI agents were at Mar-a-Lago and said "they even broke into my safe." "My beautiful home, Mar-A-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida, is currently under siege, raided, and occupied by a large group of FBI agents," he said in a statement Monday evening. The former President was not in Florida at the time that the search warrant was executed.
The search began early Monday morning and law enforcement personnel appeared to be focused on the area of the club where Trump's offices and personal quarters are, according to a person familiar with the matter. The Justice Department declined to comment to CNN, as did the White House. A White House official said it was not notified about the search. CNN has reached out to the FBI for comment.
The Justice Department has two known active investigations connected to the former President, one on the effort to overturn the 2020 presidential election and January 6, 2021, and the other involving the handling of classified documents. The National Archives, charged with collecting and sorting presidential material, has previously said at least 15 boxes of White House records were recovered from Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort -- including some that were classified. In April and May, aides to Trump at Mar-a-Lago were interviewed by the FBI as part of the probe into the handling of presidential records, according to a source familiar with the matter.

I turned on the TV (MSNBC) and the pundits are suggesting maybe something to do with NARA and those 15 boxes of stuff that were taken (although i know supposedly the boxes were retrieved awhile ago although one wonders if some things were removed before being retrieved and they know that).

From what I've heard about the SS lately, I wouldn't trust them!
as a federal "personnel issue". They could have been removed, reassigned, and replaced at those locations pending investigation.
And I really hope DOJ can use any & all info found, not restricted to scope of warrant.

I don't think it really hit me just how much of a BFD this was until I saw their reactions. 
except maybe items that may have been official gifts from other nations that are usually kept in storage and managed by a Curator (with some that might be have eventually kept/displayed by the Smithsonian), for example dinnerware/stemware or sculptures, or paintings, furniture, tapestries, etc.
There were AP images circulating of the move-out and some of the boxes and bins of stuff that had been taken that were mixed in with personal items -

The Post and The Times reported that some of the items in the boxes included letters to Trump from North Korean leader Kim Jong Un — which Trump described as beautiful "love letters," a note from former President Barack Obama, a map on which Trump drew with a Sharpie to mark a possible hurricane path to Alabama, and at least one piece of clothing. Gifts that made their way from the White House to Mar-a-Lago include a plaque and replica of a piece of the US-Mexico border wall, a signature Trump 2016 campaign pledge, which was previously displayed in the private dining room next to the Oval Office, the Post said. The Democratic leaders of two congressional committees, Rep. Carolyn Maloney and Sen. Gary Peters, have said they will open investigations of Trump's potential violations of federal records laws. The Archives has also asked the Department of Justice to investigate whether Trump broke the law in taking official White House items, the Post reported.
Representatives for Trump did not immediately return Insider's request for comment. The latest reporting isn't the first time the Trump administration has faced scrutiny over missing and undisclosed gifts. Politico reported in August 2021, for example, that over 20 types of gifts were missing from the State Department's gift vault after Trump left office.
The Department's internal watchdog is investigating, among other missing gifts, whether Trump political appointees stole gift bags intended for foreign attendees of the 2020 G7 summit, which was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, upon leaving office The New York Times reported in October 2021. The White House also failed to disclose gifts of what appeared to be cheetah and tiger fur robes given to Trump by the Saudi Royal Family until Trump's last day in office, when the White House turned them over to the General Services Administration, The Times reported last year. The US Fish and Wildlife Service later determined the robes were not, in fact, made of real tiger or cheetah fur, but had been dyed.

The bolded parrt of the above may be what triggered what happened yesterday.
I would hazard to guess that actual documents might have been kept in the boxes except for a select few that criminals like Flynn would know what they represented, and much of the artifacts may have actually been displayed around the residence and might have been part of what were removed in the seizure.
It's entirely possible that many promo photos of the inside of the M-A-L resort, included views of rooms that contained items on display that were stolen at move-out (or even before), and those objects may have been included on the seizure list.

And, I can't help but note that there is a comparison between the invasion of the Capitol grounds and the raid of Mar a Lago. Sweet revenge.

2022 is NOT a Presidential election year and when it comes to criminal proceedings, they are expected to be "quiet" because the statute requires it - particularly when it comes to grand juries.
