Allen Weisselberg, a Top Trump Executive, Pleads Guilty in Tax Scheme

Source: New York Times

One of Donald J. Trump’s most trusted executives stood before a judge on Thursday and pleaded guilty to 15 felonies, admitting that he conspired with Mr. Trump’s company to carry out a scheme to avoid paying taxes on lavish perks — even while refusing to implicate the former president himself.

As part of the plea deal with the Manhattan district attorney’s office, the executive, Allen H. Weisselberg, is required to testify at the company’s trial if prosecutors choose to call on him, and to admit his role in conspiring with Mr. Trump’s company to carry out the tax scheme. That testimony could tilt the scales against the company, the Trump Organization, as it prepares for an October trial related to the same accusations.

“Yes, your honor,” Mr. Weisselberg said again and again in response to detailed questions from the judge, Juan Merchan, who asked whether he and the Trump Organization committed the criminal conduct underlying each of the 15 counts. Under the terms of the plea deal, Mr. Weisselberg is expected to receive a five-month jail term, and with time credited for good behavior, he is likely to serve about 100 days. Mr. Weisselberg, who was facing up to 15 years in prison, must also pay nearly $2 million in taxes.

The plea deal does not require Mr. Weisselberg to cooperate with the district attorney’s broader criminal investigation of Mr. Trump, and his admissions will not implicate the former president. His willingness to accept jail time rather than turn on Mr. Trump underscores the extent of his loyalty to a family he has served for nearly a half-century, and it helped stymie the larger effort to indict Mr. Trump.

I suppose we should be thrilled that at least he's going to jail for a few weeks.

Will likely be a few weeks more than TFG will ever receive.

tRump identifies himself as " the Company" and he also wants to possess everything. This is painful for him...that works for me.

If he does not cooperate, that 15 year sentence will be imposed. Sentencing won't be until after the trial against the company.

This may ultimately lead to dissolution of the main businesses of the orange fuck. Seeing him lose everything because of the longstanding fraud he's perpetuated would be sweet.

It also may lead to criminal charges against the orange fuck.

Stay tuned.

Should be interesting how they both play out at the same time.

let Trump get away with breaking the law. It is that simple.

sweetheart deal. Since they specifically said he won't testify against Trump, maybe it's a hint that he is but they don't want him to be "Epstein-ed" while in jail.

From what I understand from what was apparently done years ago, many of those properties (and possibly now the org itself), uses the "name", which is "licensed for use" and the income goes to him via licensing fees or something like that.

Is the fact that the Trump camp has not responded in any way publicly
I think they KNOW this could bankrupt the Trump org if there is evidence these kinds of practices were commonplace and widespread within the organization
The fear of the Trump org being fined out of existence and losing all of their money and influence is probably very much top of mind for the whole disgusting bunch of them.
