Gov. DeSantis announces 20 felons charged with voter fraud across Florida
Source: Tallahassee Democrat
Gov. Ron DeSantis announced Thursday that 20 individuals across Florida are being charged with voting fraud.
"This is something we take very seriously as a state," DeSantis said in lauding the work of a new election fraud unit that was part of legislation he supported.
DeSantis said most of the voters being charged with fraud are South Florida residents and were in the process of being arrested Thursday. The charges are being lodged n five different judicial districts across the state.
Those targeted are felons convicted of murder or sex offenses who voted in 2020 but were ineligible. Florida passed a constitutional amendment restoring felons voting rights after they served their sentences and paid all fines, fees and restitution.

(33,643 posts)Probably these are people who misunderstood the rules. 20 out of 10's of 1000's of felons 'getting it wrong' is not surprising.

(33,643 posts)But the basic argument still stands, very possible 20 out of many thousands ... didn't understand that they weren't given their rights back like other felons. Not that statistically surprising.
Also ... what about manslaughter raps? Murder III, as they call it. No voting rights returned?
How about negligent homicide such as drunk driving accident that killed someone? No voting rights returned?
What about statutory rape of consenting 17 year old by a 21 year old? No voting rights returned?

(2,705 posts)But he wants to create an election police force and those twenty people are his excuse. Millions of people vote in Florida. An election force just to catch twenty people seems like overkill to me.

(6,222 posts)Shades of Joe McCarthy's "subversives" list.
So far as we can tell, for all McCarthys bluster, his list(s) were mainly numbers either taken from other sources or misremembered or just made up, and yet people believed them, and acted as a result of what he said he had. The times were right, and the Wisconsin senator and others were allowed to go on scapegoating and fear-mongering for several years.

(then again, I read RFC's for fun and saw RFC 791 listed. It's one of the first few I printed out back in the day and soaked up like a sponge, so...)
THANK YOU!

(7,282 posts)or if he is, the media is ignoring it. For every article about DeathSentence's bullshit, there seems to always be a comment by Fried included in the article, but never one from Crist. You'd think he wasn't even running. I don't know if it's the media or his campaign that's to blame for this.

(15,888 posts)This type of 'tumping his chest', loudly exclaiming that these felons thought they could illeagly vote while using phrases like 'election fraud unit' will make people who are unclear if they can vote, not even try to vote.

(17,757 posts)In the meantime, perhaps we should redo the Florida 2020 election because of twenty accused fraudulent voters.
Most felons can have their voting rights restored here by law, he is trying to scare them into not voting. As is common in other states as well, we send far more black people to prison than whites, so the whole DeSantis deal is racially motivated. And they wonder why they can't get the black vote... It is all Ron DeNazi in action, bringing Fascism to a state near you.
