Jury finds two men guilty of plot to abduct Michigan governor
Aug 23 (Reuters) - A jury on Tuesday convicted two men accused of conspiring to trigger "a second American revolution" by kidnaping Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, handing the U.S. government a victory in its second attempt to prosecute the case.
The verdict against Adam Fox, 39, and Barry Croft Jr., 46, comes about four months after a federal judge in Grand Rapids, Michigan, declared a mistrial in the same case. Two other defendants were found not guilty in the first trial.
The pair, who the government said were members of the Three Percenters militia group, were also found guilty of conspiring to use a weapon of mass destruction - an exposive device that prosecutors say the conspirators planned to hinder law enforcement's response to a kidnapping. Croft was guilty on an additional charge of possession of an explosive device,
The men face the possibility of life in prison.

I ran for office because I love my fellow Michiganders and my home state with all my heart. I always will. I will not let extremists get in the way of the work we do.
They will never break my unwavering faith in the goodness and decency of our people.

(6,115 posts)What I love abut her is her ability to laugh and find enjoyment. These days everybody is so doom and gloom (with good reason, mind you). She can make jokes and find humor and she can laugh at herself.
I don't trust people with no sense of humor.
Besides, she and I both attended Michigan State University. I graduated from California State, but I still bleed green and white.

(37,703 posts)snip-"Fox and Croft were convicted of kidnapping conspiracy and conspiracy to possess weapons of mass destruction. Croft was convicted on an additional weapons charge.
snip-" The prosecution, however, argued the men did a lot more than talk - they took action to carry out their plan, including casing Whitmer's vacation home twice, building explosives, holding secret meetings, and practicing breaking and entering drills in shoot-houses they built that mimicked her cottage.
The jury spent two weeks listening to testimony from FBI agents, informants, and wiretapped conversations from the defendants themselves, in which they discussed kidnapping "that tyrant bitch" and trying her "for treason."

Adam Fox and Barry Croft Jr. were also found guilty of conspiring to obtain a bomb to blow up a bridge and prevent police from catching them so they could kidnap the governor at her lakeside vacation home, according to the Associated Press.
Federal and state officials originally charged multiple people in the plot. Ty Garbin and Kaleb Franks pleaded guilty and agreed to cooperate.
Daniel Harris and Brandon Caserta were acquitted in the April trial at which the jury deadlocked over the roles of Fox and Croft. Jurors seemed to agree, at least in part, with defense lawyers arguments that FBI agents entrapped the men in the violent plot.
