Bartels said Channels — who later the same month was charged with sexual assault of a child and possessing child pornography — came recommended by “respected sources.” The police affidavit indicates that compliance director Carrie Walter and security director Mike Welna didn’t know where to turn to provide the training so they turned to security officer Mark Rigatuso, who suggested Channels.

Channels said he was an Offutt Air Force Base “civilian police officer” who owned a private security company. Walter told detectives that Channels stressed that local police “would be present during the training event and would even participate and ‘play along’ with the scenario.”

John Channels, 27, was taken into custody for five counts of terroristic threats and one count of use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony.

According to court documents, the incident occurred on May 19, at the Catholic Charities building, located near N 93rd Street and Bedford Avenue.

The incident happened five days after a white gunman in military gear attacked shoppers and workers at a supermarket in Buffalo, New York, killing 10 Black people.

Investigators allege that Channels identified himself as an "Offutt Civilian Police Officer," according to court documents.

Officers responding to the scene determined that Channels was firing 9mm blanks from a handgun and had "staged unidentified individuals throughout the Catholic Charities location to act as victims to be viewed by employees as they fled the building's entrance and exit locations," according to court documents.

They were, about 5 years ago, but Active Shooter Trainings in schools today are usually offered through a trauma-informed lens, which includes letting all the employees know about the training well ahead of time, the trainers spending more time talking than shooting, and empowering employees with knowing escape routes, how to shelter in place, and how to fight back if they can't escape. This change came about after many, many teachers and students experienced trauma during unannounced active shooter trainings resulting in many, many lawsuits.

WTF? Even if Google isn't your friend, wouldn't you contact local law enforcement or emergency response agencies for a reference? Wouldn't you do a background check on whoever you hired, get references, and the like? I agree with whoever said on this thread that the Catholic Charity people who approved this pedophile trainer need to be fired and prosecuted.
