WASHINGTON With abortion access already expected to be a major issue in Novembers midterm elections, Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham supercharged the debate over reproductive rights by introducing a bill that would ban most abortions after the 15th week of pregnancy.
I have chosen to craft legislation that I think is eminently reasonable in the eyes of the world, the South Carolina senator said. If we take back the House and the Senate, I can assure you well have a vote, he vowed, speaking at a Capitol Hill press conference where he was flanked by some of the nations most prominent anti-abortion activists, including Marjorie Dannenfelser of Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America. Many of those activists would like an outright ban on all abortions.
This bill, frankly, doesnt go far enough for many people, said Penny Young Nance, president of Concerned Women for America. But it is a consensus piece of legislation.

The human sucker fish is at is again. Two things:
1: My body, my choice works on COVID vaccines but not on women's health for Republicans.
2: Letting the states decide doesn't work for Republicans actually.

(6,689 posts)Repubs across the country are backtracking primary abortion stances as fast as possible. It might be the most toxic issue in decades. When McConnell was asked about Lindsey he mumbled state issue bullshit. It's like Lindsey wants to remain in the minority. Upcoming catastrophic shit to be blamed on Dems? I mean, Lindsey is a spineless weasel, but he's not completely politically naive. This was politically naive.

(46,095 posts)Republicans have already made it clear they intend a federal ban of abortion once they're in power in the House and Senate. Sure, they won't have the votes for a filibuster, but Mitch can remove that pesky little device. Sure, there's a Dem in the WH, but who knows if TFG returns. And he'd like nothing better than to be the President who finally banished abortion across the land.

(38,556 posts)With his promise to do this (in the event of taking over the Senate) will absolutely energize the 70% of voters that want to protect reproductive rights and reproductive health care.
I guess we should be grateful that he's so stupid that he doesn't know how stupid he is.
