Flights out of Russia sell out after Putin orders partial call-up

Source: Reuters

GDANSK, Sept 21 (Reuters) - One-way flights out of Russia were selling out fast on Wednesday after President Vladimir Putin ordered the immediate call-up of 300,000 reservists.

Putin's announcement, made in an early-morning television address, raised fears that some men of fighting age would not be allowed to leave Russia.

Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu said the call-up would be limited to those with experience as professional soldiers, and that students and those who had only served as conscripts would not be called up. Nevertheless, Google Trends data showed a spike in searches for Aviasales, which is Russia's most popular website for purchasing flights.

Direct flights from Moscow to Istanbul in Turkey and Yerevan in Armenia, both destinations that allow Russians to enter without a visa, were sold out on Wednesday, according to Aviasales data.

Replaced by a quiet unsettled murmuring, trying not to attract attention to themselves.

There may be some trigger point that makes the population break into open expression of resentment, much like what is happening in Iran at the moment, but it's unpredictable.

You'd Google "How to leave Russia", wouldn't you?

Most normal Russians do not want to get caught up in, or become a victim, of Putin's insane wet dream.

And if you have the resources, get that ticket pronto!

Expect to see broom squads sweeping up "volunteers". Typically the more calm they are in announcing something like this the more urgent it really is, and the more desperate they are. I refer you to the repeated nuclear threats announced.

an exodus of young young Russians left. Apparently the same is happening now. I feel for the ones who do not have the funds and the means to leave.

They need to rise up against not just Putin but the entire Russian government. They have the power. The rest of the world would reward them.

I wonder if Biden and other European nations are only holding back taking out Putin because they can't be sure who the new leader would be?

passport control. And its a real international crossroads.

Although a busy airport, it doesn’t operate at maximum capacity. There’s room for a lot more flights.

The other 2 airports are generally domestic.

Of course there are other airports such as Ataturk.

Even if he resigned from office (can a dictator quit?), there would be concern that he was still calling the shots or that he could return to office at any moment.

You would think in 2022 it would be easier than ever to make this happen. Couldn't we give a few courageous Russian a drone or two?

Our Russian owned GQP like Graham and Mitch and Fox will accept Russian refugees fleeing THEIR mad man like brown people are doing. Being Putin supporters though they already have their orders to not dare let them in. Unless the oligarchs that pay the American
comrades are feed you with Pootie too. Who will Allow 3-5 hundred thousand Russians in? Maybe they should storm their capital. There must not be much military to fight them back. Besides, Russian bots riled Americans up to attack our government, maybe use those skills to overthrow your own before you end the world. They are not immune to radioactivity.

while they still can. Anyone with the sophistication and means to get out is going, meaning young people with computer savvy and western credit cards (that don't work in Russia). Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan are two of the places they're going, neutral countries for now but Putin will likely try to annex all the 'stans.

He's losing a whole generation, either on the battlefield or by emigration. He'll likely close the borders soon. It won't work, but that's what dictators do. The Iron Curtain will be back, at least until he's gone.
