BUSAN, South Korea (AP) The nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan arrived in the South Korean port of Busan on Friday ahead of the two countries joint military exercise that aims to show their strength against growing North Korean threats.
The joint drills will be the first involving a U.S. aircraft carrier in the region since 2017, when the U.S. sent three aircraft carriers including the Reagan for naval drills with South Korea in response to North Korean nuclear and missile tests.
The allies this year have revived their large-scale military drills that were downsized or shelved in previous years to support diplomacy with Pyongyang or because of COVID-19, responding to North Koreas resumption of major weapons testing and increasing threats of nuclear conflicts with Seoul and Washington.
The South Korean navy said the training is meant to boost the allies military readiness and show the firm resolve by the Korea-U.S. alliance for the sake of peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula.

(53,741 posts)This is realpolitiks on steroids, a warning as unsubtle as possible to China to not get any ideas on Taiwan like Putin did on Ukraine.
It's China's move, let's see what they do, although they've done quite a lot already in the South China Sea...building man-made islands which seem designed to influence/interrupt international shipping lanes, intrude on other nations in the area's sphere of influence, and IMO is realpolitiks on steroids on China's part also.

(616 posts)Much like how it was okay when China sent some warships to EEZ off Alaska. If Mexico or even Canada decided to host some Chinese warships, then it would be in their right to do so. Would you disagree with China if they sent one of their newest carriers to dock somewhere on the west coast of Mexico?

(616 posts)Reported on it? Did anything of substance happen other than discussing the history of that port and Chinese investment and ultimate takeover of it? The actions of the US government are discussed constantly by Chinese news.

(12,250 posts)you just made my point, you think that all the world's ills are the fault of the US, no other country is responsible.
That's some really weird thinking there, but you're entitled to your own opinion but not your own facts.
