Former Kansas GOP governor Hayden endorses reelection of Democrat Kelly

TOPEKA — Former Republican Gov. Mike Hayden endorsed Tuesday the reelection of Democratic Gov. Laura Kelly.

Hayden, who served as the state’s governor from 1987 to 1991, joined former GOP Gov. Bill Graves and former Democratic Govs. Kathleen Sebelius and John Carlin in urging Kansans to vote for Kelly on Nov. 8.

“In 50 years in Kansas politics I’ve seen the good times and the bad,” Hayden said. “The affairs of Kansas are in good shape right now, and I credit the bipartisan approach of Governor Kelly.”

He said Kelly’s work as governor led to adoption of a multibillion-dollar highway and transportation program. He said state aid to K-12 public schools reached record levels and jobs were being created in the state’s economy. He touted passage of a law phasing out the state’s regressive 6.5% sales tax on groceries.

but Kelly has done a remarkable job when you realize who she's had to work with! And then you stand back and consider she's got at least two former Republican governor's endorsing her, as well as the democrats and that's a true testament to her stamina, her staff, to her creativity, and to her intelligence. I'll admit I'll always be a Sebelius woman... but Kelly comes in a close 2nd for me. And she most assuredly has my passionate vote this November!

The Repubs are running all kinds of 1/2 truth and smear ads against her on Tv now. They're getting really desperate now. The worst I think I've seen... at least the one that turned my stomach the worst... had a 20-something in the athletic swimming pool saying how she came across a biological male in the changing room and worse, the "girls" who had practiced so hard had to compete against "him." Not only was it sexist against a trans, but it also had hinted that the "girls" "he" was competing against were so much younger and smaller than "he" was. But again, she was this athletic, muscled, 20-28 year old, herself. The whole damn ad was horrific. I could critique in other ways, but that's where it hit me in the gut the worst way. But then, I have trans friends... so I'm pretty easy to offend surface level on these types of ads.

Have you noticed how all the ads bring up Brownback?! I have news for them. Brownback was/is something to be ashamed of... not some horn to toot! Look to him to see what NOT to do... not what to emulate! The freaking idiots!

Have substance and facts. Schmidt’s ads have histrionics and nonspecific nonsense. Wow, he’s Gonna. STAND UP TO BIDEN, by gawd.

Brownback has been a radical right wing hall of famer for decades.

They've not governed for so long, they've forgotten how it's done! Policy? What's that? All "Politics" are to them is smear campaigns. I remember where someone coined the term politics as the art of compromise. Well, that word is totally lost on R's since they started hanging out with the Dominionists and other one-god only religions.

R's actually started believing their own bullsh*t that government is the problem instead of the answer, and thus they forgot what the answers COULD be. Besides, R's never did have any creativity, except in sadism... and for that, they have it in spades, unfortunately!

Kelly has done a fine job as Governor despite the gop jackals in the state legislature who know naught of governance, leadership or fiduciary responsibility. They are quite learned in skullduggery, shouting, screaming, lying. I guess that would sound like any gop legislature.

The Dems Are nicely using Schmidt’s connection to good ole Sam brownback to beat him over the head.

Ya know, brownback the failed Governor who got a Cush religious job with a nice socialist stipend from his lord and savior Jesus trump.

Ya gotta be one sick pup to vote for a Republican at the state or national level.

I saw, for myself, the difference between what we had available for my grandmother and what was available to us for Mom. It was sickening. I count myself as a fairly intelligent individual, well read, and highly political. I keep up with stuff. Everyone in the family has always turned to me for answers to just about every question. But it got to the point where my only answer was "Brownback killed it" because that WAS the answer.

Now that hubby and I are retired and living solely on Social Security it's gotten really hard. Brother (who is die-hard R) is about to cross that threshold this year, himself), my sis in 6 more years... her hubby is doing it this year. I hope things even out more for us if we can keep more Dems in office, both state and Nationally, otherwise... well... I just don't know. I always figured Mom would outlive me. But now, it looks like I could outlive my sister. And this whole mess is driving me nuts. Brownback has totally destructed my little family. And for what? So the Koch brothers could throw one more fancy dinner party?

It just blows my mind and makes my blood pressure boil what they did to this State. I remember from my youth we always had problems, but still there was a heck of a lot to be proud of being from Kansas, and I could hold my head up high. After Brownback and the Koch's got done with us, so many good people got hurt bad... people like us who worked their whole lives living within the confines of the law and ethics... and now we're barely scraping by trying to keep our elders alive and living in dignity, wondering what in the hell we're going to face in 5-10 years down the road. No wonder the Republicans want to keep gun ownership legal. They're really hoping we'll all just kill ourselves and take care of the "problem." (!)
