Lizzo Invited to Perform at James Madison's Home After Playing Crystal Flute

Source: Freedom Rock Radio Live Free - Rock Hard!

Lizzo playing James Madison‘s flute might have conservative pundits up in arms, but the folks repping the 4th president’s home couldn’t be happier and they’re urging her to make a house call ASAP.

A rep for James Madison’s Montpelier estate tells TMZ … Lizzo now has an open invitation to take a private tour of Madison’s well-preserved estate after she made history with the crystal instrument formerly owned by the prez.

snip

They hope something can be worked out with the Library of Congress to get the crystal flute — which dates back to 1813 — brought there for Lizzo’s set. The estate notes there’s no evidence JM ever played the instrument, so Lizzo could be the first to play Madison’s flute at Madison’s home. Iconic.

FYI — the historic Montpelier, located in Virginia, is a 2,650-acre estate … acting not only as a monument to the former president, but also as a museum of American history and a center for constitutional education.

Those white buildings I think were the slave quarters.

One of the crazy DuPont family had lived there. The place was a mess. Apparently she’d forget to pay water and power bills regularly.

October 1993.

The tour was a trip - showing where the staircase once was, while looking at the DuPont’s “decorating.”

PBS did a nice special on the restoration. Mind blowing.

snip-"Apparently, The Montpelier Foundation falls into the supporter category. TMZ reportedly spoke to someone associated with the Madison family’s Montpelier estate in Virginia, and they want Lizzo to visit the location and possibly play the 200-year-old flute at the site.

Montpelier was the official home of James Madison and his wife Dolley Madison. At one point during their time at the residence, the Madisons owned at least 100 enslaved African-Americans. James Madison also brought some of his slaves to the White House during his presidency from 1809 to 1817, according to historians."

Lizzo playing the that flute was almost beyond words. Her playing that flute was sensational, and beautiful. It was from another dimension, haunting, with a clarity that touches my soul every time I listen to it. She is brilliant.

The property has been beautifully restored (it was private until 1983) and in the hands of what seems to be a great foundation. Our tour guide was so knowledgeable and engaging I asked if she was a history professor in the area. They have done a wonderful job addressing the history of enslaved people.

Really, go see it. You get to stand in the room where Madison poured over hundreds of books about government to come up with the Virginia Plan.

Edited to add: One of the white buildings in the photo is actually the first home built on the site by Madison's grand-father. The others are some of the plantation's slave quarters. One contains an excellent exhibit about educating children about enslaved people.
