Trump rallies drift to fringe ahead of potential 2024 bid

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by Omaha Steve (a host of the Latest Breaking News forum).

WARREN, Mich. (AP) — Paige Cole is one of the “Anons.” The mother of three from Eastpointe, Michigan, says Joe Biden is a sham president and believes Donald Trump will soon be reinstated to the White House to finish the remainder of Biden’s term.

“His whole inauguration was fake. He didn’t have real military people. He had, like, fake badges, fake people. And Trump is actually our president,” she said while waiting in line for his latest rally on Saturday at Macomb Community College. Wearing a pink “Trump 2024” hat and draped in a large “TRUMP WON” flag, Cole — a former Democrat who says she voted twice for Barack Obama — began to cry as she described the significance of Trump's return and the 1,000 years of peace she believes will be ushered in with it.

“It’s gonna change everything,” she says, "like we have never in humanity seen before.”

Trump’s rallies have always attracted a broad swath of supporters, from first timers taking advantage of their chance to see a president in person, to devotees who camp out for days and follow him around the country like rock band groupies. But after spending much of the last two years obsessively peddling false claims of a stolen election, Trump is increasingly attracting those who have broken with reality, including adherents of the baseless QAnon conspiracy, which began in the dark corners of the internet and is premised on the belief that the country is run by a ring of child sex traffickers, satanic pedophiles and cannibals that only Trump can defeat.

Emphasis mine

A former Democrat? I smell bullcrap. A thousand years of peace? I smell intense bullcrap!

Trump is increasingly attracting those who have broken with reality, including adherents of the baseless QAnon conspiracy, which began in the dark corners of the internet and is premised on the belief that the country is run by a ring of child sex traffickers, satanic pedophiles and cannibals that only Trump can defeat.

Emphasis mine

You can't reason with people like this. But there are extremes on "both sides." Expect the same "both siderism" to be trotted out their like a tired meme or a played-out song on the radio.

These people must be destroyed. . .I mean socially, economically, and politically.

Label them weirdos or similar name. Reason won’t work, branding them as weirdos or some similar name will. They earned the name, it’s only fair to use it.

I don’t blame them as much as those that exploit them for their own gain. Trump, Jones, Fox, etc. etc., the list of exploiters in America with no hate speech laws, is long.
That’s evil exploiting weak, it’s permitted in America, openly. Another form of holy Capitalism.

A day does not go by when some con is attempting a scam on US citizens. There are the spam emails, the robo calls, the Nigerian prince and IRS scams. The timeshares, pyramid schemes, weight loss pills and catfishing are ready to manipulate you out of your money and time

Then there are the scams that are approved by capitalists. Microsoft not allowing you access to your own documents untill you pay the yearly renewal fee. Annual taxes on property except for stocks because the rich buy them. Cops pretending to solve crimes when 90% of their time is used harassing citizens over petty, nuisance laws.

Then there is a whole system of beliefs with no valid evidence indoctrinated children about magical beings with super powers. It sets us all up to accept lies and manipulations. Religion is a scam that carefully teaches our children how to believe all the other cons.

some major void in these people's lives. That need was there before Trump came along. If it hadn't been Trump, eventually it would have been someone else. It is both incredibly sad and horrifying. Even more disturbing are the people who exploit them for power and money. The damage they do cannot always be undone.

None of this is new however. We've witnessed religious charlatans do the same thing for years, but rarely on such a large scale. Much of that can probably be attributed to 21st century marketing techniques and the Internet. It is much too easy to reach these people and keep reinforcing the message 24/7. Modern technology is such a mixed bag, both a blessing and a curse.

When that date comes and goes, they just choose another date and move on. The question of why they continue to believe in something that never happens is interesting in terms of the inability of their minds to process factual data (the world didn’t end) with a belief system that promises the world will end on another date in the future. These are the Trump cult, waiting for him to be president again.

I contrast that with the majority of us who do not live our lives waiting for some mythical event to happen or some made-up god to take control and make everything perfect. I believe theirs is a form of mental illness. No one would do a study like this, but it would be interesting to know the IQs of the woman who believes that Biden’s inauguration was fake and her fellow rally attendees who follow Trump around the country. I’m guessing they would be on the low side, but who knows!

In any event, they are a minority. The sad thing is that they vote.

Claiming to be a former Dem is a con that a lot of GOPers pick up because it ads authenticity to their arguments.

I find that when having arguments about god, many theists pretend to be former atheists. When you ask for details, they give weird, illogical reasons for their atheism and conversion to theism.

I do the same thing with GOPers claiming to be former Dems. Their reasons for conversion are flimsy and illogical.
