Saudi Arabia Defied U.S. Warnings Ahead of OPEC+ Production Cut

Source: Wall Street Journal

Days before a major oil-production cut by OPEC and its Russia-led allies, U.S. officials called their counterparts in Saudi Arabia and other big Gulf producers with an urgent appeal—delay the decision for another month, according to people familiar with the talks. The answer: a resounding no.

U.S. officials warned Saudi leaders that a cut would be viewed as a clear choice by Riyadh to side with Russia in the Ukraine war and that the move would weaken already-waning support in Washington for the kingdom, the people said.

Saudi officials dismissed the requests, which they viewed as a political gambit by the Biden administration to avoid bad news ahead of the U.S. midterm elections, on which control of Congress hangs. High gas prices and inflation have been central issues in the campaign.

Instead, the people said, the kingdom leaned on its OPEC allies to approve the cut, which is aimed at reducing production by 2 million barrels a day.

so gas price increases are an excuse and not founded in supply and demand.

Don't know why we don't work with Mexico and Venes. to increase supply in the meantime.

911 was not enough for people to wake up to SA. Maybe this will.

We should never forget 9/11, but we also should not forget that SA exported their extremist Islam, Wahhabism, to other parts of the Middle East to maintain control at home. Wahhabism led to both al Qaeda and ISIS. SA has helped murder thousands of people, and MBS has personally ordered the murder of people who criticize him.

The US could end sanctions on Venezuela and replace most and possibly all the oil we import from SA. I would say the bigger enemy now is SA, not Venezuela.

All the more reason to oust all the GOP from the House and Senate. They will have us victims of economic blackmail for decades if we don't fight back. Just know we will and should be making sacrifices as our grandparents did during WWII. I know the Rethugs hate the thought of making sacrifices for anything except the Orange King, but we must get these greedy, evil MFs out of power.

They hate the Iranians, both as heretic Muslims (Iran is Shia, Saudi is Sunni), and a major non-Arab Muslim force in their region. Despite the Great Satan and all that, tens of thousands of Iranians studied and worked in the USA before 1979, and those college students are now senior government officials. Plenty of the had a good time studying in the States, and by comparison, relatively few Saudis did, many of them preferring to adhere to their austere lifestyle instead of blending in. The Iranian students association at my college was a strongly present group, men and women, and I'm sure the women that went back got a nasty surprise after their victory over the hated Shah. They didn't risk their necks opposing the Shah just to be oppressed under an even worse cultural religious repression. One can see now the difference. Iran is in uproar over the death of a woman being mistreated by the religious police. Saudis would just sich and sing Bruce Hornsby: That's just the way it is.

We woman were treated as insignificant. Had to wear their scarves and crap and obey their cultural norms. I was in the country for the first time and remember thinking why? Why don't we have alternate fuels? Why do we have to defend such a horrible regime? Everyone always said so grandma pay a $1 at the pump. If the US pulls out of the region, the oil industry probably will collapse because they do not have the skills to extract and market the oil. Most of their skilled workers are foreign. I always said they would still sell their oil to us. I didn't realize how much they need us.

Ive spent a long time thinking about what the obstacles are and what the current costs are for sticking with oil and coal.

I haven’t really thought about military costs since we got out of a rack and I actually didn’t even realize that we were defending Saudi Arabia. I remember they don’t want us in their country but we are around, in Kuwait and Quattar and I don’t know where else.

I’d be very grateful if you’d send me a PM just something up the context or send me a link or two that you trust to explain this. How many folks if we got out there what’s the basic purpose.

If you don’t feel comfortable I understand and I’m happy to delete this post if you let me know if you’d like that I’ll do it right away. Thanks very much. If you’d like I’m happy to fill you in on the ins and outs about Hawaii and politics here in the sovereignty movement and history as I can. Sending you Aloha and gratitude

Our foreign policy actually hates anything socialistic because the wealth is spread around. We hated Chavez even though he tried to make petro deals with us and even sent petro to poor people in the US. There a bad people in all kinds of economic systems but we only hate those in power over socialistic countries. Jesus Christ would be demonized by the capitalists tyrants if he actually walked the earth today. Go figure.

Fucking oligarchs are totally glad to burn down the world as long as they get profits. Horrible, nasty people that we should totally repudiate. Stop all shipments of any aid whatsoever to them. Stop pretending they are anything but greedy oligarchs who are diametrically opposed to everything we hold dear.
