BRISTOL, CT (WFSB) - Two officers were killed and one was seriously injured in what state police called a deliberate act to lure law enforcement to an address in Bristol.

Bristol police identified the officers who died as 35-year-old Sgt. Dustin Demonte and 34-year-old Officer Alex Hamzy.

The officer who was seriously hurt was 26-year-old Alec Iurato. Bristol police said went in for surgery at St. Francis Hospital.

Iurato was released from St. Francis Hospital late Thursday morning to a standing ovation from colleagues and other officers:

A suspect was also shot and killed, troopers confirmed. Troopers identified the suspect as 35-year-old Nicholas Brutcher.

State police confirmed that officers responded to a home on Redstone Hill Road in Bristol shortly after 11 p.m. on Wednesday.

Troopers said Bristol officers were lured to the home for a fake domestic incident between two brothers.

the dead perp's fb page is still up. A couple indications of right wing madness, but it must not have been his primary platform. the guy was 35 with a wife and very young daughter (pictured dolled up in the red white and blue). He did a reel about how "mad" he was that McDonald's asked him if his happy meal toy should be a boy or a girl toy. supposedly funny.

it's inexplicable and so very sad.

i am pretty sure he was a hunter. I checked out his brother's fb page as well and there were no glaring signals that they would do something like this. it defies reason from any angle i can see.

There are many gunners who have a strong distaste or even hatred of police and government and they feel they need weapons to protect themselves from such. The man's actions don't surprise me given what I see at his FB page and from what I've read at other places.

because the brother was injured, but i have not seen whether it was by his brother or the cops, and the way they characterized the call as the police "being lured" made me think the brother was part of the attack. I'll keep looking for more recent news.

The dregs of humanity continue to surface.

RIP Officers and thanks for your contribution to a civilized society that others cannot abide.

they remain firmly on the side of protecting 2A alongside the gun nutters.

It’s baffling to me.

Most police agencies and organizations, at least as far as I've seen, have come out pretty strongly against laws that make concealed carry legal for anyone with no permit. On that particular point, they have no desire for it to be legal for any old rando to walk around with a shooter snugged up in his waistband or jacket, and I don't blame them a bit.

On the whole though, personally and professionally, police officers do tend to be fairly pro-Second Amendment, particularly down south and out west where gun culture is deeply entrenched. Even so, they do have limits since they're usually not fond of being shot at.

Concealed Carry Weapons (CCW) on College and University Campuses
In response to the facts and statistics surrounding gun violence and related risks at U.S college and
universities, the IACP supports the prohibition of concealed carry weapons upon U.S. college and
university campuses.

Criminal Use of Semi-Automatic Assault Weapons

First passed in 1994, the assault weapons ban required domestic gun manufacturers to stop
production of semi-automatic assault weapons and ammunition magazines holding more than ten
rounds except for military or police use. While the ban was in place, it was remarkably effective in
reducing the number of crimes involving assault weapons. In the period of the ban, (1994-2004) the
proportion of assault weapons traced to crimes fell by a dramatic 66 percent.
Semi-Automatic assault weapons are routinely the weapons of choice for gang members and drug
dealers. They are regularly encountered in drug busts and are all too often used against police officers.
The IACP has been a strong supporter of the assault weapons ban since 1992, and our membership has
approved several reauthorizations of support in the years since. The membership took this action
because we, as law enforcement executives, understand that the criminal use of semiautomatic assault
weapons pose a grave risk to our officers and the communities they are sworn to protect.

Firearms Enforcement

The IACP urges Congress to increase resources to better allow state, local and tribal law enforcement
agencies and the Department of Justice to enable greater prosecution of individuals for Brady Act
violations. In addition, the IACP supports firearms enforcement programs that involve local, state and
federal agencies, such as Project Safe Neighborhoods and Project Exile, which have shown significant
reductions in firearms-related violent crime

I live about ten miles north and worked in bristol maybe ten years ago. around the corner from the sprawling and ever growing ESPN campus. I thought Ct had stricter gun laws. It take a lot of work to get a hand gun permit here?

It also has the closest Harbor Freight store to me. I hope the closed due covid Savers (a used everything bargain store) has reopened?

Condolences to the officers families, and I hope the authorities pulled the gun from the perps cold dead hands.

ps - I set up and ran a cnc machine that made the major component for practice target rifles. They relocated to South Carolina because Ct. passed a law that drove most gun manufacturers out of the state. I also set up a cnc to make 5 shot 45 caliber cylinder. and my first job out of college was P&W Division of Colt Industries. I think Colt is still in operation in W. Hartford mostly for military? And the big blue cupola Sam Colt built as a f.u. to Hartford politicians has been restored and is close to the I-91 highway as you leave the city due south.
