Herschel Walker Doubles Down on Cop Badge: 'It's Real'

Source: Daily Beast

U.S. Senate candidate Herschel Walker has defiantly claimed again that the cop badge he pulled out at Friday’s debate is real and that he has been “working with law enforcement for years” including training, leadership, and health and wellness programs.

After copping heat online for the stunt, where he was criticized for producing a prop during the debate, the Georgia Republican sat down with NBC News’ Kristen Welker for an interview airing in part Monday on Today. In it, he says he has an “honorary sheriff badge” for Chatham County, Johnson County, and Cobb County with “limited rights.”

“That’s a badge that I was given by a police officer, and I do have the badge I carry with me all the time. It’s a real badge. It’s not a fake badge. It is a real badge,” Walker says in the interview in a transcript obtained by The Daily Beast.

Questions surrounding the former NFL star’s alleged work with law enforcement have plagued his Senate campaign, including a June article in The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that indicates there is no real evidence to prove Walker’s longtime claims that he has worked alongside the FBI or police.

A man so obviously intellectually and mentally impaired.
With an obvious lack of a moral compass.

This man has a good chance of holding high office.

Putin/GOP want democracy to look foolish and weak.
To justify installing a white, christian minority rule.

And Americans are making it easy.

I won't be able to blame the folks in Georgia when Sarah Huckabee Sanders is the next Governor of Arkansas. That will be on the majority of the people in Arkansas.

I have some hope for the Georgia election. The current polls put Sanders up by 11 points over the Democrat, Chris Jones (PhD Morehouse College). It will be a long time before a majority in Arkansas forgives the Democratic party for putting an African American in the White House.

People who commit crimes, are doing drugs, etc.

The christofascists swear up and down that he has been counseling the sheriff's office on mental health issues.

I have no idea what that means. He makes appearances and shakes hands. Reminds everyone to call the help lines. What?

Didn't know that being a career pro sports figure gives you any great wisdom or education in mental health expertise.

AFAIK he never put on a uniform and worked a shift and got paid by the county.

Walker admits that it is an honorary badge in this interview

https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2022/06/14/herschel-walker-false-claims-senate-georgia/

In reality, he had not. A spokesman for the Cobb County Police Department told the Journal-Constitution, and later confirmed to The Washington Post, that it has no record of working with Walker. A campaign spokeswoman told the Atlanta newspaper that Walker had led “women’s self-defense training, participating in the FBI Academy at Quantico” and also held the title of “honorary deputy” in Cobb County.

The title of “honorary deputy” holds no power at all and is seen as a “political token” for people supportive of the sheriff who might want to get out of a traffic ticket, former DeKalb County district attorney J. Tom Morgan told The Post. Morgan is a Democrat.

He doesn't understand what an "honorary" badge is and isn't, he clearly doesn't understand the concept at all. How pathetic.

I need to send some more money to Warnock. Walker MUST NOT be allowed to win. If (gods forbid), he did win, who the heck is going to do his job? He's certainly not capable of it.

I guess the Repubs don't care as long as he puts in an appearance whenever there's a vote (and there will probably be people assigned to make sure he does). What a freaking farce.

Walker seems like that joke come to life, well maybe minus the nice guy part (guns, threats, and like that).

W had the Dim Son act down cold. You knew wasn't quite in the room, or at least that's where he seemed to be.

It seems to me that Walker is not here, or there much of the time.

...that Walker tried to argue with the moderator that the badge wasn't a "prop"?

It would have been easy to miss, because he was talking over her and she was trying to rein him in, with the result that their voices were overlapping and drowning each other out. But I'm sure I heard him say "It's not a prop!"

I remember thinking, "Good god, that nimrod doesn't even understand what the word means."

The whole thing was cringeworthy. And his continuing to bring it up is even more cringeworthy. His best bet would have been to never mention it again and hope people would forget about it, but instead that chucklehead keeps making sure nobody has a chance to forget!
