Ulf Kristersson: Swedish parliament elects new PM backed by far right
Source: BBC
PM Ulf Kristersson's Moderates will form a centre-right coalition with the Christian Democrats and the Liberals.
But it will govern with support from the Sweden Democrats (SD), who won a fifth of votes in recent polls.
Tougher immigration policies and greater police powers are part of a policy deal with the SD.
...
The SD was founded by Nazi sympathisers and had been shunned by the mainstream for decades.

There is also a far-right-headed coalition trying to form a government in Italy, but it hasn't got there yet:
Trouble flared on Thursday over the appointment of Melonis Brothers of Italy party colleague, Ignazio La Russa a collector of fascist memorabilia as the new speaker of the Italian Senate.
While a majority of lawmakers voted to endorse La Russa, there was one group which notably refused: Silvio Berlusconis center-right Forza Italia party. They are meant to be on Melonis side.
...
One reported bone of contention between Meloni and Berlusconi is his call for a serious Cabinet position for his protégée, Forza Italia Senator and former nurse Licia Ronzulli.

(21,644 posts)A hard-right candidate - Trump's old pal Macri - was narrowly elected in 2015 after dog-whistling for years against (recent) immigrants, which in Argentina mainly means dark-skinned people from the neighboring countries.
He was defeated for re-election in 2019 - the first Argentine president to do so - but only after wrecking the economy in a Bush-style debt bubble.
Macri's now trying to get back in next year - and may still do so, given how intense the racist sentiment is with right-wing voters down there.
While the economy has been growing again, 100% inflation (much of it, 'greedflation') is only adding to his chances.
And if not Macri, someone even further to the right - well within openly fascist terrain.

That's why Trump was elected in the US. Let's face it, even some DUers think an H1B has been posting on DU for 20 years without being deported. (I'm a US citizen you dingbats)

(54,417 posts)In Stockholm, near the central train station, I saw no one who looked even remotely Swedish (it looked more like Bucharest), and in Malmö, I saw neo-Nazi style skinheads everywhere. I thought to myself, this is not heading in a good direction. Sweden looked like it was headed for a polarization like Belgium. I remembered the Sweden of the 1970s that I used to visit so often. Mostly Swedes embracing the multi-cultural society they were slowly becoming. That Sweden had disappeared from view, at least superficially. Maybe out in Eskilstuna or Örebro or some such place, but not in the big cities (I havent been to Göteborg in decades).
