CDC director tests positive for Covid-19

Source: CNN

CNN — Dr. Rochelle Walensky, the director of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, tested positive for Covid-19 on Friday. Walensky is experiencing mild symptoms and is up to date on her Covid-19 vaccines, according to a statement released by the agency. Walensky received an updated Covid-19 booster in September.

“Consistent with CDC guidelines, she is isolating at home and will participate in her planned meetings virtually,” the agency said. “CDC senior staff and close contacts have been informed of her positive test and are taking appropriate action to monitor their health.” Covid-19 cases have been falling as the United States moves into fall. However, experts say cases may begin to climb as they have during the past two pandemic winters – especially as several new coronavirus variants begin to gain traction.

The CDC recommends that people who have recently recovered from a Covid-19 infection wait to get boosted at least until the illness has passed and a person is no longer contagious. The CDC says a person “may consider delaying your vaccine by 3 months from when your symptoms started.”

Getting infected can act like a booster, and studies have shown that people have a relatively low risk of getting sick again for about three months after they recover. People may not want to wait as long as three months if Covid-19 levels are high in the community or they have a reduced immune function, CNN has reported.

You cant see the daily data on the CDC tracker anymore - they converted it all to weekly retroactively to the beginning of the pandemic. Updates now on Thursdays.

nursing home has had an outbreak of Covid since mid September. There have been at least 37 cases and that doesn’t include a few employees. Luckily my Mom hasn’t gotten it. She had the latest vaccine October 4th along with the flu shot.

One in each arm. The COVID shot hurt the worst. My tiredness, headache and soreness was about the same as my last COVID booster. Though I think the side affects lasted 4 days instead of just 3. I also got a slight stuffiness in my sinuses that faded after 2 days, that was caused by the flu shot, I think. Tylenol took care of the worst of the pain.

But at the VA, where I got my vaccines, they said I should only do 1 at a time. But I asked for both because it's a long drive for me to get there. I would get both again. It wasn't that bad.

Hope this helps.

between vaxes. This omicron booster I found to be stronger than the last one, but much weaker than the original 2021, somewhere between the two reaction -wise. Nice to be up to date, went to a fun block party last night with my new up to date immunity and all! Good neighborhood band, saw some peeps, was nice to be out and about.

and they have never been able to keep a mask on her. (That was true with my Dad too.) She just takes it off. I know if they tried to make her wear one, they would have a fight on their hands.
She can be kind of mean at times. I have been on the receiving end of that three years ago when she was in the hospital before she went to the nursing home. It was sad and frightening at the same time. Unfortunately it happened when my BIL and nephew came to visit her. I was worried about my nephew (he was about 24, and very close to his grandparents) seeing this and just explained to him it was just the medication they had her on and suggested they leave.

Sometimes you don’t know if it’s the disease or the medication. We decided to take my dad off a med that was supposed to be helping with dementia but ended up negatively distorting his personality. Wasn’t helping anyway. Then started giving him cannabis and that helped (mostly CBD with a little THC). We need more research dollars going into that.

...and only one thing that I vehemently disagree with President Biden on.

Do we have zero cases? Do we have zero deaths? Do we have full vaccinations on 100 percent of the population?

Then the pandemic is not over. No matter what way you want to spin it.

She tweets out that respiratory infections are on the rise and to "wash your hands." Yeah, of course wash your hands because you don't want to be a dirty scumbag, but wear a good mask too. The vaccine effectiveness has been overstated.

Five days ago, my father (early 70s, good health) died of Covid. He had all his vaccines. Today would have been his birthday. We would be ordering pizza and wings for him and watching football games like he loved. Instead, he's on a slab in the funeral home, getting embalmed. I don't see how I can possibly ever get over this.

CDC director Rochelle Walensky is giving people horrible advice that is getting people killed and devastating their loved ones.

Please continue to wear a good mask.

I am so sorry that happened to your father. My husband and I continue to mask and are fully vaccinated and will continue to protect others and ourselves. We certainly wouldn't want to be the people who hurt/killed someone else and we're terrified of long Covid.

There is a grief group here that can help you express your loss. I visit regularly. It helps.

There are still about 400 deaths a day in the US. That's 4 times higher that an average flu epidemic.

My relative was also vaxxed and boosted, although not in good health.
Covid still could be very dangerous to the elderly, even vaxxed and boosted.
