ST. LOUIS A teenage girl and a health teacher were shot to death and six others were injured Monday morning at Central Visual & Performing Arts High School in south St. Louis. Police confronted the gunman inside the school and killed him.
The suspect, a man not yet identified, was about 20 years old. Police haven't said what, if any, connection he had to the school at 3125 South Kingshighway. One survivor heard him say he was "tired of everybody" in the school. His gun jammed at one point, giving kids time to escape.
Authorities have not released the names of the woman and the teenage girl who died. But relatives of the woman identified her to the Post-Dispatch as 61-year-old Jean Kuczka, who taught health and physical education. Kuczka lived in Dittmer, Missouri.
The gunman apparently came into Kuczka's classroom, Room 323, and Kuczka went in front of him to protect the students. It wasn't immediately clear why the gunman went to her room and if he targeted a certain teacher.

(565 posts)At least the police responded quickly and engaged the shooter (KILLED HIM) to limit more casualties. Feel sorry for the people who lost their lives but it could have been worse.

Late afternoon today I was working with about 22 middle schoolers and we were cleaning up our school garden in preparation for winter. I found myself thinking about where I'd tell the students to go if a gunman attacked us.
Yeah, so there I was, surrounded by beautiful plants, kids having fun learning about what weeds/plants to pull and what not, and I'm wondering where I'd tell the kids to hide if a shooter opened fire.
