Officials: Saudis tell US that Iran may attack the kingdom
Source: AP
WASHINGTON (AP) Saudi Arabia has shared intelligence with American officials that suggests Iran could be preparing for an imminent attack on the kingdom, three U.S. officials said Tuesday.
The heightened concerns about a potential attack on Saudi Arabia as the Biden administration is criticizing Tehran for its crackdown on widespread protests and condemning it for sending hundreds of drones as well as technical support to Russia for use in its war in Ukraine.
We are concerned about the threat picture, and we remain in constant contact through military and intelligence channels with the Saudis, the National Security Council said in a statement. We will not hesitate to act in the defense of our interests and partners in the region.
Saudi Arabia did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Nor did Iran's mission to the United Nations.
One of the officials who confirmed the intelligence sharing described it as a credible threat of an attack soon or within 48 hours. No U.S. embassy or consulate in the region has issued alerts or guidance to Americans in Saudi Arabia or elsewhere in the Middle East based on the intelligence. The officials were not authorized to comment publicly and spoke on condition of anonymity.

So....Saudi Arabia reduces oil production as a big fuck you to Biden, and now two weeks later it sounds like they're looking to the US to help protect them from a potential Iranian attack.
Could be an opportunity to squeeze some concessions from those assholes.

Time for them to pull up their sandals laces and defend themselves. Maybe their new pals in Russia will help, after all they get to market the Russian oil in a blending scheme. They want other people to fight for them, send out some of the 15000 royals to fight

(8,612 posts)to intervene wherever possible. They already removed one of their chief oil rivals by getting W and PNAC to invade Iraq.
Now they sense their power over US policy is slipping so they gin up fear of an attack. It is too much like the alleged threat levels during Bush/Cheney. The timing and the vague nature of the so-called threat are suspect on the face of it.
Iran is in no condition to set off on a new adventure with so much turmoil at home. The potential for that to backfire is great indeed.
The question to ask is what is happening right now in SA that would benefit Iran attacking? What purpose is served by a regime under considerable domestic threat raising the stakes at home by antagonizing SA? I don't see any purpose served by inviting some kind of response from either the US or NATO.

(2,426 posts)Great comment!!!!! Look beyond the idea of this as a sports analogy. Can we give up the idea of rooting for one side or another. This is not a soccer game. Real people and real cities are destroyed. The two countries are very different. Lets refuse to get sucked into this. Been there and done that in Iraq! Too bad trillions of dollars were wasted there and for what? Meanwhile we have people in need here!

Let's talk about oil supply. After all, high oil prices helps Iran too. You getting the picture yet? Alliances and allies do not operate on a one-way street.

Maybe you shouldn't have been greedy, power hungry, control freaks for the past zillion years, as you continually hold us for ransom over oil prices. Maybe since most of the 911 hijackers who came from your country weren't the best emissaries. Maybe your treatment of females isn't quite as liberal as you pretend it is. We hate you!
