Bus of migrants from Texas expected to arrive in Philadelphia next week

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A bus of roughly 50 migrants is expected to arrive in Philadelphia from Texas on Monday, the mayor's office announced on Friday night. The bus is expected to depart from Del Rio, Texas, on Saturday.
The city said Texas officials did not contact Philadelphia ahead of busing the 50 to 52 individuals seeking asylum. The mayor's office learned about the news from a community partner. The city called Texas officials not alerting them about busing migrants to Philadelphia "disappointing and irresponsible."
It's unclear where the bus will arrive in Philadelphia. The city said it's a fluid situation.
Philadelphia's Office of Immigrant Affairs and the Office of Emergency Management have been preparing for the potential unplanned arrival of migrants from southern states since the summer, according to the mayor's office. The city said the agencies have been meeting and coordinating with about 15 local community-based organizations and partners to plan a response, including preparations for immediate reception, shelter space, emergency health screening, food, water and more.

When Abbott started doing this over the summer to other locations, the city has been prepping for it being "our turn".

PHILADELPHIA (TND) Since April, the state of Texas has bussed approximately 10,400 migrants caught along the southern border to three "sanctuary cities," Washington, D.C., New York City and most recently Chicago.
Now, another major city, Philadelphia, is preparing to become the next potential destination for migrants, as Texas Governor Greg Abbott shows no signs the bussing will come to an end anytime soon.
"The busing mission is providing much-needed relief to our overwhelmed border communities," Abbott said in a press release Friday.
The City of Philadelphia is not aware of any busses heading their way, but it is currently "inventorying existing resources should those seeking safe refuge find their way to Philadelphia," a spokesperson for Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney told Axios.

(2,651 posts)Sure, then abbott would stiff philly just like his hero trump.
This busing of immigrants just proves to me, once again, that abbott has no idea of how to do his job of "governing."

This cannot be legal. It certainly is immoral.

(50,562 posts)Find fifty violent gang members who are willing to move to Texas, and load the bus with them for the return trip. Preferably members of the same gang...we don't want any gang fights on the bus.
If they want to replace fifty peaceful asylum seekers with fifty people who are by no means peaceful, that's their choice.

(50,562 posts)The objective is to fill Texas with people they absolutely do not want to be there.
I can just imagine the discussion that would happen if this was done:
Youre trying to turn Texas into a gang infested hellhole just like New York.
No
Texas is already a hellhole, a few violent street gangs will do you good, and youll NEVER be as good as New York City.

(17,015 posts)Sending them to tx. would be worse for the gang members than abbott.

(50,562 posts)It's warm in the winter - well, warmer than NYC or Philly anyway - and with fewer gangs to deal with there's less competition for the various businesses they are in.
But remember I put a stipulation: they have to volunteer to move to Texas. Unlike Abbott, I don't want to move people around against their will.

(1,766 posts)By stopping these hate migrations before they got out of Texas. Arrest the bus driver, impound the bus, and send the migrants to the nearest migration center in Texas. Try to move them again--same thing.
Repeat until that Texas fascist pig gets the hint.
