Anti-abortion groups seek to overturn FDA approval of abortion pill
Source: Politico
Lawyers from the conservative Christian legal group Alliance Defending Freedom filed the suit in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas in Amarillo on behalf of the Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine, the American Association of Pro-Life Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the American College of Pediatricians, the Christian Medical & Dental Associations and four doctors.
The FDA declined to comment on the litigation. An HHS spokesperson defended the medication as safe and effective and said that denying women access to any essential care they need is downright dangerous and extreme.
The case: The ADFs lawyers argue that the FDA went beyond its authority in approving the medication 22 years ago.

order to stir up shit so as to keep pushing the GOP's blueprint of keeping the minority
controlling the majority.

(2,759 posts)Christian Nationalists, knowing they were mistaken or lying about who Jesus was and what He stands for, I've never raised my voice against their heretical theology and taken a stand other than in remarks to friends.
By not doing so, I've stood by while real harm has been done. Their ideology is extremist and not at all what Jesus would have us do. The successful attack they mounted on the right to decide for oneself about whether and when to have a child is just one issue.
Why should those who distort and defame Jesus be allowed to get by without answering for their heresy? Bad theology doesn't lead to abundant life but to a world of scarcity for the many and of elevation in the hierarchy of those of "right belief."

(10,095 posts)absolutely no rights to their own bodies. Red states are moving closer to Gilead every day. We need a Supreme Court that respects the separation of church and state instead of the one we have pushing theocracy.

(17,042 posts)I know the unelected fascist liars on the (formerly) s.c will bend over and grab their ankles for anyone trying to make abortion go under the table, but how would this lawsuit actually work?
Hoping a sicence based judge throws it out and fines the assh*les for wasting the courts' time.
Stockpiling any meds sounds like a good idea to me.
And finally, how did we get from being a fact-based leader in the world, to becoming a fascist theocracy that is really no better than any country that oppresses its citizens?

with the abortion pill. Next they would go after contraception. The Midterms showed That the voters do not want to be told what to do. The blowback would be huge.

(16,541 posts)From the article (please note the portion I've bolded):
The hypocrisy, paternalism, and condescension of this statement make me want to fling sharp objects at whoever is responsible for it. First of all, it's an outright lie; carrying pregnancy to term is MUCH riskier and less safe than having an abortion (whether via a procedure performed by a properly trained health care professional or by using medication. Second, we poor little "vulnerable girls snd womwn" are perfectly capable of making these decisions for ourselves, and the last thing we need is to be "protected" by draconian laws that actually put women's lives in jeopardy when an abortion is needed because of pregnancy complications.
If someone objects to abortion because it conflicts with their religious beliefs, that's their right. Making laws that put the government between women and their health care providers and force women who do not share those beliefs to be controlled by them is NOBODY'S right, and it needs to freaking STOP!

(80 posts)If these insane far right GOP want to ban meds women use, it's time to ban Viagra. Men who are old don't need Viagra. It's a natural thing for old men to lose virality. Time to sue FDA and end usage of this dangerous drug.
