Musk says Trump's Twitter account to be reinstated after poll shows narrow support
Source: Reuters
Donald Trump on Saturday said he had no interest in returning to Twitter even as a slim majority voted in favor of reinstating the former U.S. President, who was banned from the social media service for inciting violence, in a poll organized by new owner Elon Musk.
Slightly over 15 million Twitter users voted in the poll with 51.8% voting in favor of reinstatement.
"The people have spoken. Trump will be reinstated," Musk tweeted.

He said he would stick with his new platform Truth Social, the app developed by his Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG) startup, which he said had better user engagement than Twitter and was doing "phenomenally well".

Shortly after taking over Twitter last month, the Tesla CEO had said no decisions would be taken on reinstatement until a newly announced content moderation council had met, later adding that no bans would be lifted until there was a clear process for doing so

(21,266 posts)I guess he's showing off his smarts with a Latin phrase. Maybe he should include the entire quote for historical reasons.
"An early reference to the expression is in a letter from Alcuin to Charlemagne in 798. The full quotation from Alcuin reads:
Nec audiendi qui solent dicere, Vox populi, vox Dei, quum tumultuositas vulgi semper insaniae proxima sit."
And those people should not be listened to who keep saying the voice of the people is the voice of God, since the riotousness of the crowd is always very close to madness.

(58 posts)Which it clearly, before being taken out of context, was.
I am shocked that I had no knowledge of the origin of the phrase, which have always taken as laudatory.
Did check elsewhere than wiki (which often IS vox populi) for conformation, and this was easily found.

(9,708 posts)They should've emailed every Twitter user to invite them to participate if they were going to do a poll on this, thought Trump should stay banned no matter how many people want him back IMHO.
At the very least, Musk the Twit should have imposed a requirement that Trump could be kicked off again if he advocates violence. If he foments more violent acts, I hope victims will sue Musk.
