Arizona's GOP governor congratulates Hobbs on victory as Lake refuses to concede
Source: The Hill
Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey (R) on Wednesday congratulated Katie Hobbs (D) on her victory to succeed him after Republican nominee Kari Lake declined to concede the race.
Hobbs was declared the winner of the high-profile gubernatorial race last week, and Ducey on Wednesday met with her and offered his full support to begin the transition amid GOP allegations of voter disenfranchisement.
Today I congratulated Governor-elect Katie Hobbs on her victory in a hard-fought race and offered my full cooperation as she prepares to assume the leadership of the State of Arizona, Ducey said in a statement.
My administration will work to make this transition as smooth and seamless as possible, he added. Our duty is to ensure that Arizonas 24th Governor and her team can hit the ground running and continue our states incredible momentum.

Hope he has good security. Seems to be a lot of sore loser Republicans with guns.

(5,125 posts)Like when we moved from Pope Benedict to Pope Francis.
From former Youth For Hitler turned Pope
TO a Pope who understands and shows by his actions that leading the faithful is first and foremost being a servant of God and treating others as Jesus taught us. NOT banging the Old Testament over people's heads.
Not that DU is religious, but people in high places that work with US instead of against US is a nice norm to have.

He pouted.
So if Gov is already needing to start the actual work soon, he might want to get our ahead of someone else "outing him" for working WITH DEMS - shudder - oh the horror.

(6,815 posts)A crime of great import, really! But in an era of outrage, it got pushed to the side. The transition of power is not just a formality. To impede that transition is unthinkable but not prosecutable?

(5,125 posts)The formality of the Senate and House procedures keep people in line a bit, Roberts Rule of Order etc...
The gentleman from XXX will yield the floor to....
And the traditions of changing one administration to another was part of honoring the Founders and all those who have built this country since then.
Like rules of sportsmanship, yes things change, evolve, but the heart of it is to compete fairly and be a good sport whether you win or lose.
Country folk had manners too, but a little leeway more than the "Statesmen" who were held to a higher standard.

(6,815 posts)of good manners was, in general society, formalized in practice. Often, what we see as simply good manners, socially graceful means to interact, was enforced by violence. I give you: whippings behind the coal house, tarring and feathering, banishment, run out of town on a rail, the ever popular "duel", etc. Fear of enforcement was enough to discourage most "honorable" people away from trespass. Everyone had their own personal experiences to know with certainty what "raised right" meant.
The truth is that the founders could not imagine a world where good manners and respect for the forms of society and governance could be ignored and tossed aside without some form of popular, inescapable enforcement. Our "kinder and gentler" approach to a perfect society has let loose the hounds of depravity whose current iteration is Trumpism.

(5,125 posts)Because that is actually what MAGATS are saying.
When you yell at and beat children you put them into an amygdala hijack and then they have to fight their lizard brain just to keep from running or fighting back. Their cognitive functions are in the OFF position until the emergency is over.
People of HONOR don't need to be beaten or shot to understand that violence should be the last resort.
PEOPLE OF HONOR UNDERSTAND
That calmly transitioning from one leader to the next can and SHOULD inspire faith in leadership and elections.
Even in 2400 BC leaders with intelligence encouraged calm and rational behavior of those governing. That from a group that has a track record of being off the hook crazy with power and killing slaves at will.

BOTH SIDES DON'T isn't a NEW THING.
We have had some people saying that CALMER HEADS PREVAIL and
Other people saying THEY ONLY LISTEN if you MAKE them since humans could talk.
The problem is, we as humans WILL devolve, if we don't evolve past this crap.
You don't have to make all of society FEAR you to lead. That "works" in the short term, but long term THAT is what creates people reacting in fear and reaching for their guns to "protect" themselves from anything they perceive as other.
MAGA is stuck in CLAN mentality - only trust those you know and who look like you.
Rich people feeding that fear and grooming people like MGT to claim victim-hood in order to stoke the flames of RIGHTEOUS FIGHT in process, grab your gun and protect yourself IS HOW WE GOT MAGAS.
Make no mistake. THERE ARE WAYS TO DELIVER NATURAL CONSEQUENCES FOR DISOBEYING THE RULES OF SOCIETY that follow a calm and logical process.
Some of those, like the death penalty, don't look much different than those of the other side. BUT the way we get there IS.
HOW WE GET THERE COUNTS.

(6,815 posts)How the world of the founders was a different society than the current. The rules of that society precluding much bad acting in public forums. In the higher society it would have been unimaginable that enmity from one president for another would take the form of public rudeness. I think that is why the various necessary requirements of transition were not written clearly into the constitution. Like most avoidable disasters it was a failure of imagination.
Fast forward to the present and we see the rudest piece of marginal DNA imaginable elected POTUS. Such a possibility was not on the founder's radar. Is that because we are evolved into a society over-stocked with people who have poor judgement when discerning the character of their fellows? Probably but it is a highly nuanced subject.
BTW, I don't condone beating children at all, ever. Hollering, nagging and threatening unfulfilled consequences, also, are all child abuse. Nor am I convinced of a great value to be found in condescension toward the "Country folk". Quite the contrary, we need their votes to stop the hordes of hate salesmen.
Skill in commanding one's "lizard brain" is the individual's only means of mastering unconditional self-control and should be practiced at every opportunity.

(5,125 posts)It was more the idea that WHO back in that time could ever have conceived of someone like tRUMP EVER getting in as POTUS.
They prepared for many kinds of problems, but DEPENDED on WE THE PEOPLE to NOT allow such a thing to happen.
AND I trust the "country folk" that live a simple life a lot more than the "rich folk" that are Oligarch inclined.
It takes ALL of US that believe in DEMOCRACY to keep it going and only a FEW of the people at the top of the financial chain to wreck it for everyone. Not all rich people are bad, but the ones that are have too much power over the rest of us because of Citizens United.
A lot of people have different ideas of how to bring up children to respect law and order and have manners, but I have had to confront my own son about how INEFFECTIVE yelling is because his kids are yelling back at him and still not internalizing what he is trying to teach them.
Somehow my efforts failed because as a teen he dumped everything I taught him and decided he knew it all. I failed. He's drinking the MAGA koolaid. All I succeded in was getting him to 18 alive, talking him out of suicide and having him live with the only babysitter he ever listened to during high school. He managed to trash that too. I taught him to think for himself, so he's decided whatever I think must be wrong.
So if I over reacted and took your words personally, I apologize.
Peace.
