Iran reviewing mandatory headscarf law amid ongoing protests

Source: The Guardian/US

Iranian authorities said they would review a decades-old law that requires women to cover their heads, as the country struggles to quell more than two months of protests linked to the dress code.

“Both parliament and the judiciary are working [on the issue],” of whether the law needs any changes, Iran’s attorney general Mohammad Jafar Montazeri said on Saturday.

Quoted by an Iranian news agency, he did not specify what could be modified in the law by the two bodies, which are both largely in the hands of conservatives.

It was the fact that Mahsa was tortured and murdered for wearing the Hijab that triggered all of the rage to come up and out. It's also illegal there for women to dance and sing—a likely death penalty for doing so. Women can't ride bicycles or vote. They must have written permission from their husband if they want to go on a hike. Honor killings and rapes are also rampant.

We'll see.

And still, as of now, there are 18,000 plus protestors in jail, some of whom are children. The government releasing them would be the minimum first step. They want regime change, really. I do not think anything else will do.

1. educated people unable to get jobs where they actually receive a salary.

2. uneducated men drinking tea and coffee while women stay home. After 7 pm, some areas are 95 percent men.
