Trump's call to suspend Constitution not a 2024 deal-breaker, leading House Republican says
Source: ABC News
Republican Ohio Rep. Dave Joyce said Sunday that he didn't want to be drawn into commenting on Donald Trump's recent call to suspend the Constitution over baseless claims of 2020 election fraud.
Joyce, the chair of the Republican Governance Group, a centrist group in the House, was asked by ABC "This Week" anchor George Stephanopoulos to respond to Trump's post on Saturday on his Truth Social platform. The former president wrongly asserted that the "massive fraud" -- which did not occur -- "allows for the termination of all rules, regulations, and articles, even those found in the Constitution."
Joyce initially declined to respond, saying he didn't know what Trump said on social media and that the public wasn't "interested in looking backwards." But Stephanopoulos pressed further, and Joyce ultimately said that Trump's comment should be taken "in context" but that it wouldn't prevent him from supporting Trump if he ends up winning the nomination.
"It's early. I think there's going to be a lot of people in the primary ... [but] I will support whoever the Republican nominee is," Joyce said while noting he didn't think Trump would manage to win the 2024 Republican presidential nomination because there are "a lot of other good quality candidates out there."

Stephanopoulos called him out for promising to support someone who's come out for suspending the Constitution and he BS'ed around it.

The assumed center of the Republican party is A-OK with subverting the Constitution.
If there were any further doubt, the GOP is officially the Treason Party.

(13,369 posts)Thier platform is fascist and always has beeb they cover it up with flowery words. Just take republican beliefs and policy and follow it to its conclusion if you were to apply it to real life. This platform was the republican way of changing government before any of them moved farther right.
For instance one original platform was belief in a natural order. That's nazi bullshit right there and the republicans have always supported it even when they seemed centrist.

You are hearing a former president calling for the destruction of democracy, and he wants to be the instrument of that destruction.

(288 posts)They swear to defend the Constitution against ALL enemies, foreign and domestic. TFG has broken his oath and actively advocates the overthrow of the US Government to install himself as President. How about Rep. David Joyce? He can't bring himself to live up to his oath. He will support TFG if he is nominated. Wow, what a weak excuse for a chairman. Centerist group? Center of what? A fascist party, ready to do follow their petulant leader into a conspiracy to overthrow the elected government of the United States.
But wait there is more - these poor excuses for representative democracy also ignore the blatant bigotry that TFG represents. Dinner with anti-Semites and racists and no condemnation. Still willing to support TFG - what a profile in courage! Well thank you for removing all doubt Rep. Joyce. If you can't say enough to these fascists and indicate that you are willing to support them, what does that make you? It makes you a fascist!!!

(8,103 posts)to defend the Constitution, and yet this guy doesn't want to be inconvenienced with that oath.
I finally understood what Trump is doing with his opposition to that motion to extend the litigation by a week, after Cannon got kicked off the case. Had some help from Meidas Touch, who explained it all. He's just fishing for info on the redacted affidavit that supports the search warrant of MAL. They think it's so they can harass and discredit the witnesses once he finds out who they are.
I think, as well as most of you, that Trump is really feeling pressure from DOJ. He's running out of options. His delaying case disappears this week, although it is felt that he plans to appeal. So, I think that this blatant treasonous comment on tearing up the Constitution so HE can be, I guess King Donald, is an attempt to stir up trouble in a big way.
I am amazed that anyone buys the utter lie and revisionist history that Trump is peddling. That'll be his defense when Garland finally comes for him. If I were Donald, I'd run.
He always advertised his intentions, so I guess that if he were "elected" again, first thing he'd do is suspend the Constitution. Can't be clearer than that. People, we can't let him get reelected.
Please, G-d, make him go away.

(18,567 posts)Shows what bullshit oaths are. Their only value is to provide a reason for prosecution if violated, but no one ever gets prosecuted, so there's no point.
In this case, Mr Joyce's own oath to protect the Constitution apparently does not conflict with the stated purpose of someone to overturn the Constitution. Utter stuff and nonsense.
