After getting forced off an airplane for asking passengers who appeared to her to be Latino whether they were drug mules, a niece of former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie bit, kicked and spit on Jefferson Parish sheriff's deputies trying to detain her on Thanksgiving Day at Louis Armstrong International Airport, authorities said.

Shannon Epstein, 25, boarded the Spirit Airlines flight to New Jersey on Nov. 24 at about 6 a.m., and asked a family who were near her and whom she perceived to be Latino if they were "smuggling cocaine," said Capt. Jason Rivarde, a Sheriff's Office spokesperson. Airline workers requested Epstein be removed from the plane as she became increasingly irate, and the plane, which had started to taxi to the runway, returned to the gate, Rivarde said Friday.

When deputies arrived, Epstein refused to exit the jet bridge into the terminal, Rivarde said. When they tried to arrest her, she became "extremely combative," Rivarde said.

Six deputies hurt: In the scuffle, she injured six deputies, biting one on the arm and breaking the skin, and kicking another in the groin, Rivarde said. They were treated there by paramedics.

I do not wish that Shannon Epstein, Christ Christie's niece, has been killed by police. I just want to point out that she is still alive after having injured six deputies, one of which she bit and another she kicked in the groin. I assume a black person would have been shot dead after biting the first deputy. This seems to show that police do not have to use deadly force if they do not want to use deadly force. Incidents like this call into question whether law enforcement are actually in fear of their lives when the fatally shoot black people.

I have to think is exceedingly low, for starters.

Additionally, she'd already been through a security screen in order to be on the plane, ergo it was highly unlikely she was in possession of a deadly weapon.

These facts may have a lot to do with 'why' the cops didn't just shoot her.

In that particular circumstance they probably don't even shoot a black guy ... even though they'd probably want to, they'd know it would be very tough to justify given the security screening.

being removed by force from an airplane being shot. Bullet holes in jumbo jets would get expensive
to repair. They're probably trained to only use tasers if necessary. Plus the sound of gun fire
in an airport could set off a stampede of frightened people resulting in more injuries.

and should not be unsupervised. I mean legit on meds mentally ill. She has always been a behavioral problem. She went to the same high school as my kids and, while this is extreme, has exhibited this type of behavior since she was a teenager. Last I had heard, she was sleeping on a park bench in Morristown, NJ and her family had retrieved her to get her in treatment. Her mom is Chris Christie's sister and she isn't anywhere near the kind of person her obnoxious brother is.
