(35,622 posts)That there is anything that will help a person like Cruz. I still have pictures in my mind of his dog being left in the house without heat when he went to Cancun. Now this.
It would probably be best if a person like Cruz was not in charge of living beings with emotional and existential needs.

(15,026 posts)but I suspect even the emotional destruction of his children won't be enough to sway him to do even the minimum of decency.

(1,510 posts). . . leaves me with the impression that this was Cruz's 14-yr-old daughter.
Then, there's this:
Cruz is in Washington and it remains unclear if he will return to Texas following the incident, according to KHOU-TV.
". . . return to Texas." ?? More than likely he's headed for Cancun.

(4,311 posts)Maybe Ted should actually LISTEN TO HER, for a change, which I doubt he has ever done, until now.
I hope for her full recovery.

as you would expect.
Im sure theres a lot going on and I can only guess where most of it is coming from. The fact her own family made not one bit of public support for her or condemned her detractors speaks volumes.

I'm just SAYING ... IF.
In either case, leave the young lady alone, for sure.

(1 post)Yes, leave it alone. This is a time to respect the familys privacy. Ted will be Ted. His daughter knows who he is. If I were her, Id probably feel I was born into the wrong family and be counting the days till I reached 18. One day, maybe she will look back and see this as a teaching and learning time. God bless her.

BREAKING: Police just came to the home of Ted Cruz to help his 14-year-old daughter with self inflicted stab wounds.Horrifying.
Whatever pain she is going through, I hope she feels this country stands behind her with love and compassion. Some things are above politics.

(5,781 posts)My guess is that this is a genuine family problem, but I also wouldn't put it past Cruz to use his family to stage a publicity stunt on the night of the Warnock win. He has that level of sleaze.

(50,237 posts)I don't see how this could be a big surprise to anyone, though. If you live in an atmosphere that dwells on victimhood and hate, eventually you, too, will feel like a hopeless victim. This poor girl saw no way out.

This sounds like the child may be a cutter an extreme cry for help. My daughter in middle school was friends with a girl who did this, and it was awful. IIRC, the girl had to leave school for treatment.

(18,497 posts)We have people who look to score political points over a teen that is going through a troubling time.
Even worse is it appears some consider teen suicide to be fodder for humor.
In this, I have nothing but support for the Cruz family and that they are able to get the care their child needs.

(28,243 posts)Brace yourself for the political pity party that Ted Cruz is fixing to throw for himself. Some aspects of it may be low-key, but a political pity party of the worst and most opportunistic nature is in fact what it will be.

(18,497 posts)That shows who he is.
Despite those who say we should go as low, maybe lower, I believe Democrats should be better. My values are the guides I use to steer my life, not conveniences.to be discarded when opportunities appear. Maybe I'm just quaint.
Paladin
(28,243 posts)As long as you realize that the "Democrats should be better" notion has been dangerously empowering the right wing in this country for decades. The favors we've done Ted Cruz alone are enough to make me puke. That's a hell of a high price to pay, in order to be "quaint."

(5,901 posts)According to the Houston Chronicle this morning:
[Cruz] has spent much of the last month vigorously stumping for Georgia U.S. Senate candidate Herschel Walker in the former football star's failed runoff election against Democratic incumbent Raphael Warnock, which was decided Tuesday night.
I also read that Cruz is in Washington and has no plans to return home.
Everybody in Texas knows that Cruz is a HUGE hypocrite, along with our infamous governor, yet Republicans will vote for anyone with an "R" behind his or her name. Ted will talk Jesus and Christian Family Values, while not standing up for his wife against *rump, and obviously not being there for his daughters.
My heart goes out to his family, who have to suffer through Houston's Second Baptist Church, which should have its tax-exempt status revoked retroactive to the Far Right Rev. Ed Young's calling, from the pulpit, for all Harris County liberals to be defeated in the November election. Unfortunately for Ed and Ted, Democrats expanded their majority on Commissioners Court and reelected County Judge Lina Hidalgo! Ted Cruz graduated from Ed Young's Second Baptist High School, where he learned how to be just as phony as the pastor.
