Items with classified markings found at Trump storage unit in Florida
Source: Washington Post
Lawyers for Donald Trump found at least two items marked classified after an outside team hired by Trump searched a storage unit in West Palm Beach, Fla., used by the former president, according to people familiar with the matter. Those items were immediately turned over to the FBI, according to those people, who like others spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive matters.
The search was one of at least three searches for classified materials conducted by an outside team at Trump properties in recent weeks, after Trumps legal team was pressed by a federal judge to attest that it had fully complied with a May grand jury subpoena to turn over all materials bearing classified markings, according to people familiar with the matter.
There has been a lengthy and fierce battle between Trumps attorneys and the Justice Department in a Washington federal court in recent weeks, according to people familiar with the matter. Much of the legal wrangling remains under seal by a federal judge, but people familiar with the matter say the Justice Department has raised concerns about what prosecutors view as a long-standing failure to fully comply with the May subpoena by Trumps team.
Emails released by the General Services Administration, which assists former presidents during their transition to private life, show that the government agency helped rent the storage unit at a private facility in West Palm Beach on July 21, 2021. The unit was needed to store items that had been held at an office in Northern Virginia used by Trump staffers in the months just after he left office.

Lawyers for former president Donald Trump conducted a search of at least two of his properties for classified materials in recent weeks, after they were instructed by a federal judge to attest they had fully complied with a May grand jury subpoena to turn over all materials bearing classified markings, according to people familiar with the matter.
Trump's legal team hired an outside firm to carry out the search of his golf club in Bedminster, N.J., and, more recently, Trump Tower in New York, according to the people, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive information.
The team also offered the FBI the opportunity to observe the search, but the offer was declined, the people said. It would be unusual for federal agents to monitor a search of someone's property conducted by anyone other than another law enforcement agency. Federal authorities have already searched Mar-a-Lago, Trump's primary residence, and he spends almost all of his time at those three properties, advisers say.
Trump's lawyers have told the Justice Department that the outside team did not turn up any new classified information during their search, according to people familiar with the process, and have said they utilized a firm that had expertise in searching for documents. A spokesman for the Justice Department declined to comment. A spokeswoman for the FBI declined to comment.

ETA - let me add that I wouldn't be surprised if stuff was moved to some place close by - right under their noses in Sterling, VA. But none of them want that place to appear in print.
(there's one in Loudoun, VA too)

Desperation issues mistakes.

(86,323 posts)But since FBI wasn't allowed in these spaces all this time, there is probably nothing to find there.
I agree that it's probably buried with Ivanna or destroyed or sold.
The rest of it is gone.

(4,029 posts)If so, does the fact that no additional files have been discovered to date necessarily mean that they know that which documents were disposed of or sold to the highest bidder? Does the FBI know exactly which files theyre looking for or is it still an unknown?
The fact that missing files remain unaccounted for seems to corroborate corrupt intent. So then what? If the files cant be found, where does the buck stop?

(5,125 posts)So the FIRST Round of requests brought some boxes. ALL DONE said tRUMP's people.
Still missing a lot.
Round TWO - FBI at Mar A Lago found more and 100 docs were marked Top Secret and EMPTY folders marked TOP SECRET
SO still trying to find whatever was in those folders.
I guess this describes the situation where "Give them enough rope to hang themselves" came from.
When someone is guilty and trying to prove they aren't, so much of the time their attempts to prove a lie are so apparent that it's almost proof unto itself.
My divorce lawyer insisted I let her deal directly with my ex because he used to get abusive and manipulative with me. I was able to "handle it" but it upset me. I let her deal with him and so he tried that with her and she was able to document it and use it in my favor. Gotta love a good lawyer.

But then again, the "lawyers" employed by Trump aren't "good."

I may be mistaken, but I thought there was an article a few weeks back that the presidential records group was still missing a number of documents. Those may be the ones Trump flushed down the toilet.

(128,439 posts)Because not only does he have more than 3, he also has children who have their own domiciles where stuff could have been taken. And that pesky 4th Amendment requires a relatively explicit listing of "places to be searched" and "items to be seized".
I remember posting the below map probably under a year ago -
What happened with Mar-a-Lago was that they had "inside help" to determine what might be there and where to look for it, and that ended up on the search warrant. They also had agents visit and interview staff beforehand this past spring before the search and seizure happened in August.
