Former Theranos executive Sunny Balwani gets nearly 13-year prison sentence for his role in company'

Source: NBC News

Ramesh "Sunny" Balwani, the former business partner of Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes, was sentenced to nearly 13 years in federal prison and three years of probation Wednesday for his role in the disgraced blood-test company's years-long fraud.

U.S. prosecutors have recommended Balwani, 58, receive at least 15 years in prison after he was convicted in July on 12 counts of fraud.

It's a longer sentence than what Holmes received last month.

Theranos, which promised that its technology could quickly test for a range health conditions with just a pin-prick of blood, raised hundreds of millions of dollars in investment and attracted high-profile board members before collapsing after a series of investigative reporting that cast doubt on the company's viability.

I said it before, imagine if Ms. Holmes were a black woman convicted of holding up a bank for $2000. Eleven years? I don't think so.

Suppose Balwani were selling cigarettes on the streets of New York. The sentence for that was death.

They should have received equal sentences at least, but she should have received more as the face and focus of the fraud.

1) Prison Terms for equivalent crimes, and
2) Divorce/Child Custody cases

Before you argue with me on the first one ... if Susan Smith were Steven Smith, you think he'd still be drawing breath?
