Russia wants 'hundreds' of ballistic missiles from Iran
Source: Business Insider
Russia is looking to secure a massive supply of ballistic missiles from Iran, and in return, it is offering the country "unprecedented" military support, a top UK envoy said on Friday.
"Russia is now attempting to obtain more weapons, including hundreds of ballistic missiles. In return, Russia is offering Iran an unprecedented level of military and technical support," Barbara Woodward, the UK's permanent representative to the United Nations, told reporters after a Security Council meeting.
She said the international governing body is "concerned that Russia intends to provide Iran with more advanced military components, which would allow Iran to strengthen their weapons capability."
Woodward did not elaborate or specify on what, exactly, the military and technical support or advanced components might look like. Senior Biden administration officials, however, told NBC News that the equipment transfer includes air defense systems and helicopters.

(17,938 posts)and the bomb grade material required. There. Replaced "unprecedented military support" with the obvious. The rest of Russia's "kit" isn't all that great. Their nuclear capability is the real value.
Could the Russian move towards Iran be used as leverage with Saudi and others to throttle Russian petro-power? Possibly. A more heavily armed Iran is the last thing Saudi wants. Add the nuclear threat, and Riyadh will go nuts. And I 'm not convinced that Iran even has the capacity to build hundreds of ballistic missiles. Similarly constrained supply chains as Russia. If that wasn't a problem, why wouldn't the Russians simply build them themselves? They are good as such things, if they have the parts.

3,000 of the Zelzal (Persian: زلزال-۱, meaning "Earthquake" is a series of artillery rockets developed by Iran. The series consists of:[1]
Zelzal-1, with an estimated range of 150 km (93 mi)
Zelzal-2, with an estimated range of 210 km (130 mi)
Zelzal-3, with an estimated range of 200 km (120 mi)
4,500 of the Fateh-110
The Fateh-110 (Persian: فاتح-۱۱۰ "conqueror", also known as NP-110[3] is an Iranian solid-fueled surface-to-surface ballistic missile produced by Iran's Aerospace Industries Organization since 2002. It is single-stage, road-mobile and can carry high-explosive warhead up to 500 kg. It was developed into four generations successively improving range and accuracy. In the latest version, it has a range of 300 km and a "pinpoint accuracy" (a CEP below 10m)

(17,938 posts)Fair trade for nuclear technology. Time to train the Ukrainians on PAC-3 and keep them well supplied. It's a mature system so production capacity can be expanded relatively quickly....if we're serious about protecting Ukraine. If we are, I'll pit US industrial capabilities against Iran's every day and three times on Sunday.
