Critics are pushing back after Twitter CEO Elon Musk tweeted on Sunday morning that his "pronouns are Prosecute/Fauci," taking aim at Dr. Anthony Fauci, President Joe Biden's soon-to-be retired chief medical adviser.
In his tweet, the billionaire, 51, appeared to mock pronoun use and said: "My pronouns are Prosecute/Fauci." The comment has been liked more than 560,000 times and retweeted over 90,000 times as of Sunday afternoon.
Fauci advocated for people to get vaccinated and wear masks during the COVID-19 pandemic but has come under scrutiny from conservatives and conspiracy theorists over restrictions and medical advice he offered......................

Lawmakers react to Musk's call to prosecute Fauci
......................
..........In response to a Twitter user asking, "when will we get the twitter files on covid?" Musk replied, "oh it is coming bigtime..."
..............What they're saying: "Re Musk tweet? Courting vaccine-deniers doesnt seem like a smart business strategy, but the issue is this: could you just leave a good man alone in your seemingly endless quest for attention?" Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) tweeted Sunday.
"Elon Musk wants to criminalize Anthony Fauci because he disagrees with him. Elon is no champion of free speech," Rep. Ritchie Torres (D-N.Y.) tweeted.
"Its America. You can select any pronouns you damn well please. But Anthony Fauci has likely saved more human lives than any living person in the world. Shame on you," Rep. Dean Phillips (D-Minn.) tweeted.
"Dr. Fauci is a national hero who will be remembered for generations to come for his innate goodness & many contributions to public health. Despite your business success, you will be remembered most for fueling public hate & divisions. You may have money, but you have no class," former CIA director John Brennan tweeted.........................................
Im a big fan of Dr. Fauci and how hes calmly guided our country through crisis.

@PeterHotez
For the record: Dr. Fauci has done nothing wrong, except serve our nation. In the meantime, Mr. Musk should know that 200,000 Americans needlessly lost their lives from Covid due to this kind of antiscience rhetoric and disinformation. Elon, Im asking you to take down this Tweet

(920 posts)Musk has shot himself in the foot by buying Twitter and mismanaging it. I hope that he takes a huge multi-billion dollar bath on the deal. Anyone who is a Democrat or Progressive should consider leaving Twitter. It should become a ghost town and an echo chamber for the small number of right wingers that remain. Someone should have told Elon that smart business people should try to remain politically neutral, otherwise they run the risk of alienating half of their potential customer base. Bad business decision, Elon. You should have stuck to Tesla and Space X. Oh, and Anthony Fauci is an American hero who will go down in history as a great American. Elon, not so much.

He's the painfully shy rich kid who bought all of his friends so he'd have someone who'd listen to him. Now, he feels like a big deal because he owns the company, but now he just won't shut up! He's convinced his new right-wing friends find him witty and edgy. 🙄

(18,931 posts)I could understand how he might not support all Democratic views.
I could also understand how he might support old style Republicans that favor employers.
But I can't figure out why he follows the extreme, idiotic, Quanon version of Republicanism.
It's blatant propaganda and idiocy. Ideas made up out of nothing to support a goal that makes no sense.
He's always been strange and when that is used to accomplish goals that others have not been able to achieve, it's acceptable.
But when it is sidelined into supporting dangerous anarchy and propaganda tropes it's a whole different thing.

Its not just that Elon Musk is a two-year-old in a mans body. Its also that the Tesla motto seems to be at Tesla, quality is job none. Google door handle replacement. Ive owned a bunch of cars in my life and never replaced a door handle - but to Tesla owners having door handle failures is a badge of honor.

He'll spread it just so enough people get it for Christmas Eve dinners and Jewish Shabbats.
That will carry onward through the New Year celebrations, where some families will be burying people.

(10,168 posts)It totally sucks. He's a wonderful guy. He always thinks of others. He has a real conservative streak and he's got a phobic distaste of regulations. He works super hard and feels too many young people have no work ethic. From that vantage point he's got access to a lot of misinformation that is fed to him via Facebook and God knows what else. I'd hoped he made it safely through Covid. Tomorrow he gets treated with something, hopefully Paxlovid.

My post was because I've seen several Republicans go out to the store while they were COVID positive.
When I called one out on it, they said, "Well, someone gave it to me."

(3,338 posts)He may have an elevated IQ but, he is quickly succumbing to the same malady that seems to befall endlessly fortunate people like him. He's proving that he really isn't that smart. He's beginning to actually believe that he's destined to rule the world. Like many with success before him he believes that is his purpose here. He can't just enjoy his good fortune as an opportunist. He has to up the ante and become the latest pied piper for idiots that just want to break stuff.
People like him want for nothing. Saving up for that bigger new TV for an upcoming football season means nothing. He probably bought 10 last week. So people like him buy people. Whether it be by bribing politicians and bureaucrats or by imposing oneself as the new leader of a movement that will benefit no one. Except that one person. They are willing to dismantle society for their whims. We've seen another wannabe despot recently and the walls seem to be closing in on that bastard (hopefully, asap) and some people still refuse to see them as selfish manipulators they really are.
It reminds me of the ending of the movie Patton where at the end of the movie as Patton (George C. Scott) is walking away with his dog he narrates "For over a thousand years, Roman conquerors returning from the wars enjoyed the honor of a triumph, a tumultuous parade. In the procession came trumpeters and musicians and strange animals from the conquered territories, together with carts lade with treasure and captured armaments. The conqueror rode in a triumphal chariot, the dazed prisoners walking in chains before him. Sometimes his children, robed in white, stood with him in the chariot or rode the trace horses. A slave stood behind the conqueror holding a golden crown, and whispering in his ear a warning: That all glory is fleeting."

(463 posts)Dont be fooled, the reasons for saying these things is two fold, one, he somewhat believes what he says, and two, he needs to drive clicks to prop up this lemon he just purchased. Everybody needs to just bounce from the Twitter machine, let it wither on the vine. Thats how this game is played.

(26,120 posts)smart at all if he has trouble understanding the science of pandemics and the role Fauci played in averting total disaster within a Trump administration that was determined to pretend Covid was not real and would just go away if we stopped talking about it.
