Hundreds Of Oath Keepers Have Worked for the Federal Government: Report

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by Omaha Steve (a host of the Latest Breaking News forum).

Source: Rolling Stone

309 listed members of the extremist group reported having worked for various DHS agencies, including the Secret Service and Border Patrol

A leaked Oath Keepers membership list contained more that 300 individuals who claimed to have worked in the Department of Homeland Security, with some listing themselves as current employees, according to a new report from the Project on Government Oversight (POGO).

The Oath Keepers are a far-right, anti-government group that purports to defend the Constitution and uphold the oath made by lawmakers and law enforcement to combat enemies both foreign and domestic who they view as posing a threat to constitutional order.

The membership list contains the names of thousands of individuals recruited by the paramilitary group between its founding in 2009 and 2015, and was obtained by the transparency group Denial of Secrets in September of last year. Rolling Stone previously identified individuals on the list who held public office and who served on the NRA’s board of directors, as well as nearly 40 memberships that had been created using government domain emails.

The lists demonstrate how the organization heavily courted members of the military, veterans, and law enforcement officials to bolster their ranks. According to POGO’s review, of the 309 listed members who reported having worked for various DHS agencies, including the Secret Service, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Border Patrol, and Coast Guard, more than 90 percent had retired.

So they are destroying the same government that pays their bills.
And gives them many perks and benefits.

on the Federal payroll spent their day watching Rush Limbaugh on Federal computers during working hours. First Amendment right, or something.

There's a heavy reich-wing unproductive presence in the work force, and they're just dying to be persecuted, like the Christians in Rome (at least until Constantine made it the state religion). They love having a victim status.

Then they complain about liberal freeloaders. You know, the ones who do their work for them.

(not to dis the civil service -- as a whole, it produces lifesaving work)

And I think that anyone who tried to stop the counting of the electoral votes so that their candidate could stay in power against the laws of the US should get a far, far, far longer prison sentence than someone who steal a candy bar three separate times while carrying a knife.

It goes way back. US law enforcement was largely created to control the slave labor. That's the "militia" in the 2WhiteA.

Reich wingers are fans of control and dominance. The idea of being legally empowered to carry weapons and use lethal really appeals to them. Plus there' something about uniforms. The 3rd Reich had snappy uniforms.

That's in addition to the planned and coordinated infiltration of the military and LEO.

VERY glad there is a list of their names -- -- military, veterans, and law enforcement -- who would commit off-duty violence, goddammit.

And THIS bullshit "red tape" excuse is the excuse that is no excuse.

A March report by the DHS found that the “department has significant gaps that have impeded its ability to comprehensively prevent, detect, and respond to potential threats related to domestic violent extremism within DHS.” The department went on to say that those shortfalls have likely “impacted DHS officials’ ability to adequately identify and address related threats.”

"significant gaps" and "those shortfalls " my ass. If you signed off on that report, what have you done about those gaps and shortfalls, Mayorkas?

It would keep tabs on those that violate policies and laws. And be used to determine whether county or state law enforcement agencies would receive federal funding and at what level. If they don't meet specific standards it would be reduced.

300 in NY. People who do not live in NY think of us as a very blue state. We are blue because of NYC, Buffalo, and a small handful of small cities.

But the rural areas and villages of NY are solidly red. A few small towns are purplish.

RWers are pushing hard to flip NY to red and are making progress as the midterms showed us. This is a Democratic crisis, IMO. If we don't act locally in NY, with national party help, we will lose NY to the RW.

There are existing processes that his cabinet and agency heads already have to enact in order to root out these people.

If this kind of E.O. were a thing in government, and not just someone's opinion here, such things would reach the public. If/when you find any other sources that say he can do this, please link.

I'd be surprised to see Pres. Biden sign such an order, at least right away. He'd have to confer with his cabinet and agency heads, first, don't you think?
