ATLANTA The office of Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger has received a subpoena related to special counsel Jack Smith's investigation of former President Donald Trump.
The subpoena, which is dated Friday and was received by Raffenspergers office Monday, follows others served last week in several states and counties. Like those other locations, Georgia was a target of Trump and his allies as they sought to overturn his loss in the 2020 election.
Efforts by Trump and his associates to reverse his loss in Georgia are currently the subject of a separate investigation led by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis in Atlanta. A special grand jury seated to aid that investigation has heard from dozens of witnesses, including a number of high-profile Trump allies, over the past six months and is expected to wrap up its work soon.

(7,604 posts)Why did Willis form a special GJ to deal with Trump's election fraud? The special GJ CANNOT issue indictments. That duty must be referred to a regular GJ after the "Special" GJ concludes its work. What was the advantage of using a Special GJ, besides slowing down Trump's prosecution? Must we always be one step removed from the meting out of justice? In the Manhattan DA's CIVIL trial, Trump escapes accountability because Bragg decided to protect Trump himself from prosecution by making the devil's bargain with Weisselberg, and the trial adhered strictly to the rule that "Trump" could not be held individually accountable. Bragg didn't have to do that.
So far, NO ONE in the justice system dares to point the finger at Trump. He's always at least one step removed from an indictment.
Always. Trump is still "so special." Will Jack Smith end the mystique and call a spade a spade? Based upon past justice system history, we shouldn't hold our collective breath.

(9,520 posts)Of Raffensperger!!
First glance I assumed it was Fulton County; nope!!!
Im guessing that, unlike so many inside Trumps house of many doors, Raffensperger will not contest his appearance.
to play both sides to a degree but when he got the Fed subpoena he probably needed a change of underwear. That early date in June is right on the heels of the Georgia June Democratic primary that was on the 9th. Maybe there is evidence/testimony from others pertinent to whether the crooks were calling and making demands back then such as suppression efforts or making it known there would be pressure down the line. It would be interesting to see if Gabriel Sterling, the elections manager for GA, had more to divulge than BR let on. It is interesting that according to both BR and GS there was a phone call by Lindsey G in which he laid heavy pressure on BR to throw out Biden mail-in ballots. So did LG lie to the Fulton County Grand Jury or did he take the 5th or weasel mouth his way around it? Two witnesses to the call.
