Tesla Investors Voice Concern Over Elon Musk's Focus on Twitter

Source: Wall Street Journal

The chorus of Tesla Inc. individual investors expressing misgivings that Chief Executive Elon Musk ‘s involvement with Twitter Inc. may be to the detriment of the electric-vehicle maker is getting louder, with the car company’s stock on track for its worst full-year performance.

“There is no TSLA CEO today,” Gary Black, managing partner of the Future Fund LLC, which owns roughly $50 million worth of Tesla, tweeted Monday.

Mr. Black voiced frustration after another sharp selloff in Tesla’s stock Monday. Shares in the world’s largest car company by market value fell more than 6% in Monday trading after a tumultuous weekend for Mr. Musk on Twitter, including the billionaire taking aim at the company’s former head of trust and safety; calling for the prosecution of top U.S. government medical adviser Anthony Fauci ; and criticizing people who offer their pronouns without being asked.

Mr. Black said, “The market voted today that the $TSLA brand has been negatively impacted by the Twitter drama. Where before EV buyers were proud to drive their Teslas to their friends or show off Teslas in their driveways, now the Twitter controversy is hurting Tesla’s brand equity.”

I wouldn’t even consider buying a Tesla at this point. Once the brand identity is gone it will take forever to get back, if it’s even possible.

We watched the racist white minority apartheid government use the PW Botha method of freedom of speech, which was, we are the white ruling class and you are Black, so STFU or we will harass, beat and kill you, which they did DAILY FOR DECADES.

Elon’s racist parents brought him up in that caldron of hell, only to leave in 86/87 when it was apparent they were going to have to let Mandela go free, and revenge was in the offing, which coincided with our pro-apartheid Iran-Contra crooked president’s sleazy exit from office.

So consider his upbringing looking down his nose during his formative school years at EVERYONE not a privileged brat like himself, and that is how he sees us today imo.

regarding product build quality and long term reliability have also harmed Tesla's image as the new magic vehicle.

Musk's weirdly pathetic dream of perfecting Twitter hasn't helped either in terms of his focus on tweets rather than Tesla product development and quality control.

I drive in full EV mode around town, it's got a 37 mile EV range. When I want to hit the highway, I can go anywhere I want with my efficient hybrid engine, no range anxiety or looking for charging stations and waiting hours to charge.

On one recent trip from LA to SF, I stopped to get gas on the 5 Freeway in the Central Valley and next to the gas station was a Tesla charging station with 6 chargers. All 6 chargers had Teslas sitting there charging, and one guy was sitting there in his Tesla behind them waiting for one of the chargers to open up. I filled up in 5 minutes and was out there. None of the 7 Teslas had moved.

Between my electric driving and my hybrid engine driving, I average over 73 mpg. As a PHEV, the CA DMV gives me stickers that allow me to go in the carpool lanes without passengers. And I bought my brand new Escape in October of 2021 for around $30k right off the Ford lot, after deducting all the state and federal tax incentives. And my Escape SUV is spacious and normal looking, unlike that pregnant frog of a Model Y SUV that Elon sells for $66k.

And I have actual radio knobs, and ac knobs, I don't have to scroll through 5 screens on that stupid giant Tesla dash iPad just to turn down the fan.

...the least noxious form of the automobile there is. No automobile is "clean," but PHEVs are the best option for people who must live in the car CULTure.

They require less cobalt than electric cars, slightly more than hybrids, and they have a large capacity for recovering waste energy. This is the key, recovering energy that is otherwise waste.

The drawback is that they require a lot of elements in the periodic table to build.

The cleanest possible vehicle is not commercially available, a diesel engine powered by the wonder fuel DME.

This said, no type of car is available that is sustainable.

I am waiting to receive a hybrid myself I have on order, rated at 51 MPG.

I realize that tesla buyers are mainly musk fan boyz and ostentatious status seekers so it would seem that all that musk contributes is being the supposed "brilliant" face of the company (i.e., personal appearances, etc.,) even though he merely bought into the company and had nothing at all to do with its development.

That would mean that musk's only value to the company is his public persona which has now been pretty well tarnished. In other words, I think he's a drag on the tesla brand now.

No Tesla seemed to even be in the running on either. I'm not cheerleading the Ioniq5, even though I think it's brilliant (and it's sibling Kia EV6GT...have mercy) but something to think about Elon.
