Twitter suspends account dedicated to tracking Elon Musk's private jet
Source: NBC News
Twitter
has suspended the account dedicated to tracking the location of billionaire Elon Musks private jet.
The account, @ElonJet, was run by Florida college student Jack Sweeney and had amassed more than half a million followers. It tracked Musks planes location using publicly available flight data and appears to have been suspended Wednesday morning.
Well it appears @ElonJet is suspended, Sweeney tweeted Wednesday. He encouraged users to follow him on other platforms.
Musk acquired Twitter for $44 billion in October, and he has been vocal about his efforts to protect free speech on the site. In early November, Musk claimed he was such a staunch advocate for free speech that he would not ban the plane tracking account, which he called a direct personal safety risk.

Note that Kanye's last tweet was an unflattering picture of Elon without a shirt.
He seems to be telling his minions to ban those who offend him.

So much for his protecting freedom of speech. You have the freedom to speak any dangerous and ridiculous conspiracy theory, but can't say anything about him. That's where freedom of speech ends.

You know, crack-pot conspiracy theories, COVID misinformation etc. "conservative values" like those. 🙄

(4,622 posts)Are you saying that corporations do not have to operate within the framwork of the US Constitution?
Otto_Harper
(822 posts)The Constitution defines the government and its relationship to the people and states with regard to governance. Corporations are not bound to operate under the bill of rights or any other protections which The Constitution requires that The Government extend to the citizens.

(4,622 posts)The "legal structure of the US" includes both the bill of rights and the constitution.
So it appears that your answer is a qualified Yes. I am not sure that your take on this qualification would not be served better in another more legalistic forum. Corporations being considered "people" may have a bearing on this.
That said, Nobody else wanted to speak up on this so my guess is that this is not a completely settled issue, or issues. And/ or others did not feel equipped to adequately argue this founding documents point/s.
Are we arguing points view or settled law?
I honestly only think I know.
Good luck to you.

(822 posts)The freedom of speech which is guaranteed by The Constitution is a prohibition against the Government criminalizing speech. Period. it does not protect you from private employers and businesses who control their own premises. You may say anything you want out in the street or in public areas (known as traditional public forums).
Traditional public forums include public parks, sidewalks and areas that have been traditionally open to political speech and debate. Speakers in these areas enjoy the strongest First Amendment protections. In traditional public forums, the government may not discriminate against speakers based on the speakers' views.

(176,683 posts)Twitter is a private company and so the First Amendment does not apply. However, one of the reasons that Musk gave for buying twitter was to promote "free speech absolutism" because Musk thought that Twitter unfairly censored TFG and others.
Musk lied when he claimed that he believed in "free speech absolutism" and does not want anyone commenting on him
