Cities across China are struggling with surging virus cases, resulting in pharmacy shelves stripped bare and overflowing hospitals and crematoriums, after Beijing suddenly dismantled its zero-Covid regime earlier this month.

The decision to scrap the daily virus count comes amid concerns that the country's blooming wave of infections is not being accurately reflected in official statistics.

9. IIRC, they refused our Western vaccines and didn't enforce vaccinations strongly enough.

I'm hoping this surge of infections doesn't produce another dozen variants.

12. There are two different vaccines developed by Chinese firms.

One was developed by Sinovac, and the other by Sinopharm. The Sinopharm appears to have been more effective than the AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson, but not as effective as the Pfizer or Moderna ones. The Sinovac is the least effective of the six, at about 50% efficacy.
